Conditions at Bedgebury ?

Sorry mate, didn't get there in the end due to a domestic problem which left me with not enough time to go. You could try looking on the Bedgebury section of the Forestry Commission website to see if there is anything about current conditions."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." Cheers anyway. Think I'll just MTFU and get stuck into whatever I come across.0

Good luck mate - it's snowing here in Kent now :-) Will make it more interesting."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Yes it was icy and snowy in many places, but of course the mtb tyres just rode over it all. Goes to show - best to stop thinking about it and just get out there. Nobby Nic at 22 psi - really impressive.
Minus five at 9.30 Sat morning, but sun was shining and it was lovely out there.
Glad I went, made me realise turbo fit does not count for much out on the trails.0 -
Thanks grawp, may get down there this week though its warming up by the look of the forecast so I reckon I'll be back to mud plugging.
BTW a mate of mine was there yesterday and said he chatted to a couple of other blokes - did you go on the freeride/dirt jump section by any chance?"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Nah not me.0

Good day out there today - very rideable and only a couple of bits of mud which weren't too bad. Didn't even have to wash the bike afterwards :-)"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Just got back from a 2 lap blast whilst the kids were in bed. Although a bit wet in places this morning, the route is flowing well. Wet roots gave it an edge this morning, but hugely enjoyable (had the place to myself at 7 am!).0

Has anyone been to Bedgebury more recently? Thinking of a trip at the weekend.0

You might find someone on the Bedgebury boars forum who's been lately (boarsonbikes.co.uk). Mind you I wouldn't be too hopeful given the amount of rain recently (also due to rain tonight/tomorrow am)."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." I haven't been recently but a riding buddy told me tonight, that at the weekend it was pretty heavy going.
I imagine it's a bit of a mudfest.0 -
Thanks guys, fingers crossed for a few dry days. I will check out the Boar's forum but hopefully three dry days between now and Monday will set it up nicely.0

A mate who went there on Monday (7th) said it was very muddy...but do-able. Apparently even the berms on the dirt jump section had mud on them. Given we've got more rain on the way I reckon it'll be pretty gloopy for a bit longer."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Over there tomorrow evening for a dusk ride. Hoping it's not too bad as it won't have rained for a few days by then.0

I went earlier today and it's not too bad - there are a few big gloopy bits like at the start of 'Magic Carpet', after the boardwalk on 'Starvegoose' and a few bits of the connecting bridleways. But nothing too drastic & no need for mud plugging tyres. That said, just as i was packing up to leave around 2.30, it started chucking down again...."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Been over to Bedgebury quite a lot over the last 4 weeks.
The red route is running nicely now. Very dry, almost too dry in places due to the amount of granular fill they have to use to reinforce the trail.
They have placed new berms in a lot of the woody sections, such as Dad's Army and Helter Skelter, which helps with the flow a bit.
Starvegoose has been reversed so that you now go up it, with a new section going from the water tower back down towards the car park. The new section has some flast flowing trail with a few smaller, rollable jumps, one of which is between 2 trees barely a metre apart.
If you haven't been for a while, definitely worth a look, as a lot of hard work has been going on over there.0 -
Liking the sound of this. As it involves a 180 mile round trip, I normally make this an annual pilgrimage. The red at Bedgebury is made up of a variety of differing sections, hence it's fascination for me. Any improvements/changes are likely to involve multiple visits. I imagine that it is running very fast in these dry conditions.0

Conditions were a joy on Saturday. Not so much after yesterday, I'll bet...
First time riding there in a long while, so it was my first time with the changed end sections.
I think they've done an excellent job with both the trail updates and the final section. Although I always enjoyed the final blast down Starvegoose, it made sense to switch the direction to keep the circuit on as much singletrack as possible, rather than having more fire track.
There is a part of the final section that hasn't bedded down so well in the dry conditions, and had broken up a bit. Great fun though, and longer than you think it's going to be.2011 Black Canyon Nerve XC9.00
