Do you take part in CM, Spen?

Why do you do it? Not being inflammatory, just curious - you seem to have your head screwed on, yet I think it's idiotic and counter-productive, so interested to get another view.

I turn up for the social side- meet friends and go off for pancakes afterwards

I thought CM was illegal. :?

    You thought wrong.

CM is no more illegal than cars in a procession in traffic jam at rushhour is illegal

I was given a leaflet by the police about three/ four years ago expalining in great detail that CM was illegal.

Proves how little the police know about the law.

As I understand it this case went all the way to the Lords. Sounds like it wasn't as clearcut as you'd think...I can almost forgive the police for pursuing the case especially as i know how much they hate cyclists and demonstrators - imagine cyclists and demonstrators all in one?

My own view was always that it was entirely legal, but then what do I know?

Do you know what the outcome was?

POlice took a damn good kicking - but even if police "won" CM could not be illegal.

The police were seeking a declaration that "ORGANISER" of CM was committing an offence as they fasiled to give police the necessary notice under the terrorist legislation.

Even if police won, they missed the point that there is no organiser of CM

The police now refuse to police CM and it works far better

blimey - I'm starting to warm to you fella

The only trouble I ever had at CM was caused by the police. Last time I was on CM I stopped at a red light and got told by a copper to keep going. So I went and then had to stop on a yellow grid as the mass came to a halt. another copper came along and told me to move. i couldn't so he pulled me off my bike. Lovely behaviour. My wife wasn't very happy.

By socialise, I do of course mean "turn up to Fight with motorists"

By eat pancakes i mean - eat pancakes

When I used to go it was a constant battle with the police and the odd w@nker in an expensive sports car who'd try to rip through the mass and end up getting warned by the police or taunted by us (depending on what attitude the police were adopting that month).
