Well, if you wanted to spell ''definately'' the best way to spell it would be ''definately.'' If on the other hand you wanted to spell ''definitely''....0

Sorry, never meant to come across as a spelling snob - I have lapses myself. But I was just a bit browned off with reading 'definately' so often. After a while it starts to grate0

This is a cycling forum not a English exam! I get racked off with folk moaning about posters spellings, & this is not the first time someone has moaned about spellings. Why do you feel the need too?
I’ve had comments made about my spelling before and I don’t like it. I have other life skills that won’t come across when posting a reply. I don’t want to, or need to be told thank you. There really are more important things to worry about. I bet many of the spelling Gestapo have floors in their make-up, but in this format it's not going to be picked up on is it?
Lets accept the fact that most read a post, and reply to it.
If someone was submitting their CV, then I would completely understand your frustrations. But on a forum? Urmm. Every now and then someone is going to spell something wrong. Hit the wrong key by mistake, post a comment really late at night when they are tired, or are under the influence (a little bit) etc, etc.
Are we all suppose to spell check everything or get it proof read, before submitting a reply? Are we all expected to have an A level in English language? I think not. I could go on, but I think you get MY point.
Finally I accept that English is important and that we should all make an effort to spell words properly. But let’s do it in the right environment. As nit picking on a forum is not the place in my opinion."I spend my petrol money on Bikes, Beer, Pizza, and Donuts "

If someone is correcting your spelling, you should be thanking them - not bitching at them...
Unless you enjoy looking like a moron, that is.

It's always slightly amusing when people have this knee jerk reaction in defence of their grammar and spelling. Why is it OK for some people to murder the English language and NOT ok for others to mention it?
English has spelling rules and grammar, learn to use it properly or learn to live with people picking you up on it. It may annoy you to have your errors pointed out but as we can see it annoys others to have to read these errors and have to try to interpret what you actually mean!
It's not difficult, just spell properly for chrissake!Do not write below this line. Office use only.0 -

By correcting someone's poor english people are doing them a favour - don't take it as a criticism.
Anyway, you don't need spell check to spell right, nor do you need an A level in English language.( As such, I question your understanding of what an A level in English language entails. :!: ) Just learn from the mistakes and corrections, so that eventually, you'll write English correctly without having to worry about it. It's a good habit to get into.
At least you don't get a condescending "aw, is that how they spell it in your country?" evertime you make a mistake! I've learnt to make use of that, in spite of the tone, to improve my English.0 -

Agree to a certain extent, if someone makes an occasional spelling or grammar error pulling them up on it is just pedantic. OTOH, I think that there lies a critical point where poor spelling or grammar just makes reading a post annoying, at which point, I think it's fine to correct the errors, or perhaps have a cheeky go at them.
However, pretending that correcting other peoples mistakes is for their benefit is a bit of a lie, people blatantly do it because they like to talk to others in a condescending manner! You live and learn. At any rate, you live0 -

I'm assuming the post was ironic? :?0 -
Dead simple. If you can't be bothered to spell correctly, then what other things can you not be bothered to do?
Also bad spelling is not the same as typos.0 -
If you don't care enough about what you have to say to make sure it's not full of irritating mistakes, why should anyone care enough about it to read it?
The odd typo is forgiveable, we all make them, but total disregard for simple things that make your post understandable is just stupid.

can you also arrange for it to auto-correct inappropriate use of the apostrophe before the 's' in pluralised words...??0 -
