Wanlockhead Radar Road

I was going to start doing some hill climb repeats at wanlockhead in April. My intention was to cycle up Mennock Pass to Wanlockhead then go up the road to the radar station. Are you allowed to cycle up the radar road at all times?

I've only ridden it once - the last km is bloody steep, maybe around 12% average? I seem to recall it drops for a bit in the middle as well. Nice to have a traffic free road to climb on though. Careful when dropping back down off the radar station - pretty steep and sketchy on the way down!

  • Here's the altitude profile for three repeats of the Mennock Pass and the Radar climb.

    Sixty miles. 2100m of climbing.

The descent looks steeper than the ascent.
