I want to watch some of the track cycling at the london games.
Just saw a piece on the local bbc news about signing up for ticketing alerts: http://www.tickets.london2012.com/
I'm not particularly hopeful of getting tickets but pre-registering may help the cause...

Mrs CJ is already on the case...FCN 2-4.

hmm, halfway tempted.
I mean, it's virtually on my doorstep. And I do know one of the people competing.
But ack, it'll be tourist central.0 -
Me too, except no email received to enable the account to be activated. May have to check the spam filter at the ISP.
FWIW, for Vancouver 2010 the initial wave of tickets that went on sale to the public was done like this:
- British Columbia residents only (so n/a here given the Euro law position)
- you applied for either
(1) bundles of tickets for four different events (to make sure stuff was sold for minority interest stuff; so the men's downhill would be in a package with the team biathlon or some such); or
(2) as much as you wanted from an a la carte menu
- I think (I really have forgotten) that if you went for (1), you'd get your tickets, but if you went for (2) you went into a lottery, and were told subsequently what you had.
- Most events had category A (seated) tickets and category B (standing) tickets with a price differential. If you went for (2), you just applied for tickets and the lottery told you what (if anything) you received.
- Ticket prices ranged from c C$60 to C$150 for most stuff (pp; no discount for kids). Opening, closing, and hockey endgames were a lot more (see below for an example).
A mate went to Sydney and I recall him mentioning something like (1) above was used for the ticketing there.
Getting access to events on the day was subject to airport-type security checks. Bags off and through an x-ray machine, people through an arch. No food or drink allowed into venues. Oly-authorised concessions only within venues.
However, tickets were generally available for most events on the day, if you took your chances and rocked up. Obviously not for really high profile stuff (rumour was that C$10k was not enough to get a ticket for the ice hockey final on the day - face value C$750).
Oh, and if you don't have one, get a Visa card. Chances are it will be the only CC accepted for ticket payments and in the venues. I kid you not. That's the power of sponsorship.0 -

Seriously, if you want to enjoy it, get as close to the epicentre as you possibly can. Think of when the Prologue of the TdF was held in London.0 -

Me neither, nothing at the ISP spam filters either.0 -

hmm. Just registered Mrs G66 and the email came through immediately. Tried mine again and was told it was already registered. So tried another of my email addresses and got the activation email immediately. So perservere.
Best atmosphere, obv, will be at any event where we win a medal, preferably gold. So target those events!
The registration just gives you (I think) a secure purchasing account. The real fun will come later.0 -

Hopefully it's just a bit email latency.
Will be interesting to see how the allocations work in 12 months time0 -

Could always volunteer to help with the olympics. It'll be free then.
Or turn up to the road race, which, naturally, will also be free.0 -

The selection of "Security questions" provided on the signup form is rubbish.
I don't have one best friend.
I don't have one favourite sportsman.
I don't have one favourite food.
Whatever I select, I have to then provide an answer that will probably change with my mood. Today I may choose curry; tomorrow Chinese. Or chips.
They should provide me with an option to submit my own question, or have a selection that includes more factual questions for which the answer won't potentially change over time.
Still, signed up anyway. I just hope I don't actually need to remember what answer I gave.0 -

I signed up when I saw the news item last night too. Now that I have activated my account I am deeply impressed by what the 2012 website offers me
I think the main benefit for this will be to know when tickets go on sale so that I can try to get hold of some at the moment they're releasedFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

It's clearly a ploy by the anti-Armstrong lobby to generate a list of targets.0 -

Sadly, I reckon I'm a long way from being able to claim I'm a sportsman. I did once row in the British Indoor Rowing Championships in Birmingham though. Here's me in action:

They aren't goign to check the validity of your answer to make sure you aren't lying, all they want is that the answer you give today matches the one you give when asked in the future. You can say your favourite sportsman is 'passw0rd' if you want.0 -

Yes, it'll be an automatic string comparison no doubt, but that still supposes I can remember that I typed "chips" into the box, rather than "pizza".0
