Training advice needed

Hi everyone.
I'm looking to do the Macmillan London to Paris ride in 2011 but I am currently about to start running again to supplement the days I can't cycle.
I am overweight (by about 3 stone - I'm 5'10" and weigh 16 stone), but physically quite fit (rides of 20-30 miles every other day) but I realise this won't transmit to the running side of things.
What I need is advice on combining the two sports to A) get me fitter; and lose weight.
I am starting my training now and if anyone can point me in the direction of maybe free training programmes I can download and print off to monitor progress or anything that may come in handy for me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Darren.

Slow but steady progress - be kind to your knees with respect mainly to running. perhaps start by walking an hour route and then running bits of it 1-3 times a week. Watch what you eat adn use cycling to get you out longer and further afield. Fitness is a long term process having a 2011 goal is perfect - split up the time available until your challenge into small goals along the way. You have plenty of time dont rush and spoil it by hurting yourself, getting ill or just bored!0

If you want to get fit for the bike, stop running! Plus if you're carrying a bit of weight you risk doing your knees in.0

get a turbo trainer for the days you can't get on the bike. 45 mins on a turbo is enough to keep you fitRacing is life - everything else is just waiting0
