If I have a limited amount of time, lets say one hour...how should i train??
should I take it easy?
should I do intervals?
or should I just go flat out for an hour?
any other suggestions?!

1 hour a day, 1 hour twice a week, 1 hour a month? 1 hour a day lets you build quite a structured plan but you obviously will suffer for base miles.

    Lay on sofa??

You are training "flat out" for 4 x 2.5hrs a week, what does flat out mean, just riding as hard as you can for 2.5hrs each time?

What are you training for, what type of event, road race, tt?

What level are you at, beginner? Hardened roadman?
  • yeah...i'm pretty much a beginner, last year was my first season racing.
and flat out is just absolutely going for it, as i dont have a heart rate monitor yet, but i only go flat out for 2 or 3 of my 4 rides a week...i have at least 1 where i take it easy.

Buy a heart rate monitor and a basic book about training. Build yourself a training schedule or find a coach/instructor who will do it for you. There is so much to fill in. You are obviously young and fit enough to just bury it. Do the learning thing and possibly get real good. It's in your hands.

mmm ...how about we ask you some questions? What are your goals? When do you expect to start racing? etc etc. If there is no rush to get fit - take it easy. If your gaoas are coming up soon then all out afforts and intervals would prepare you better for those races.
  • I'd spend the hour reading a good book on how to get the most from your training!

use it for 2x20min LT intervals or 5x5min VO2 max intervals or hill repeats - you get the picture.

Some of my best training is in 1 hr blocks

    +1
    More problems but still living....
  • okay...so basically if I am going to train I should go all out in that hour, but it would be best to spend some time recovering??
My goals are to enter some local criterium races this year, not to necessarily 'race' in them but to become more experienced riding in a group, but obviously i'll need to be fit enough to keep with them!!
while we're at it...any suggestions as to how I could improve my training?
    thanks
