    Good spot!

I was just trying to look fat, so that I could act as a greater windbreak to the guys behind me. I suspect also that I was moving so fast that there's a bit of motion blur, making me look wider than in real life.

Although there is one pic that is clearly not me!!

Would have been nice to have had one with a bit more scenery behind me, I look a bit too serious as well

    Yeah, lovin' those carbon rims.

Judging by the photos 4.05 was a great time when you clearly had to stop for a sex change!

It was a bit tricky to manage all that in the 4hrs but it seems to have worked out ok...

I think I'll try a smile next time though (it'll prob be more a grimace). Looking forward to seeing the video clips of everyone finishing.

I know everyone is their own worst critic but of all the photos so far eveyone looks like they are thoroughly enjoying themselves!! (and concentrating hard...)

beat me to it....... laughing at how fat I look(am) and I do mean fat not phat! There is clearly some time to be shaved off by keeping off the pies. So if I managed 4hrs 50 this year next year sub 4hrs 30 has to be achieveable.....

for anyone else who want to laugh at a fat bloke in lyrca.......

God I look fat too and I'm not! The creases in my jersey make it look like I've got fatty ripples when I've got a 6 pack that I work hard for ! (still got an ugly mug)
Tried to do a bit of a Cavendish to help MacMillan too for a bit of a laugh :)

I, too, would like to point out that the strange looking bulge around my middle is not actually fat at all, it's caused by an unlikely coincidence of wind strength and direction that made my jersey balloon out at just the wrong moment every time I went past a photographer.
I blame cheap Aldi jerseys, I'm sure I'd have looked better in Assos.

Bit gutted there's only 3 pics so far! I absolutely caned it up the Logierait ramp and there was a photographer sat right there in front of me, kinda thought it woulda looked awesome :)

Would've loved to have seen my face on the way up Schiehallion as well, definitely the hardest I've ever pushed myself on the bike in that split, netted me 71st in KoM tho so it was all worth it! :D
How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Didn't someone tell you real cyclists only wear Assos?
    Cycle fatboy cycle.
  • Quick question, am I right in thinking that team entries are invited in the build up to the event prior to start times being released? Just this year pretty much cycled round with a pal but next year we're hoping to be a gang of five.....

too shy to post my picture but who needs to see another 16 + stone man in lycra anyway.

I felt like King of The Mountains at Logierait, swung way out right, in right gear and threaded straight though a large bunch of rider in various states of distress as they struggled to find the right gear for the ramp they now found themselves on, I must have looked at least a little impressive but alas no picture, perhaps I was to fast for the cameraman. :D

Here's my theory, if you all put in the same expected completion time and enter a team name they'll lump you together, that seemed to be the way it worked with this years start times.

Having just entered, you need to 1. all put down same expected finish time and 2. All put in the same "password" that way they will band together those with same start time and password. Otherwise they go by surname. You can add team name, and or club name.

  • Here goes.....i survived a night at bompingtons cottage....great location..lets keep this our wee secret to the others who stayed Sat night.

First of all Hello there, newbie to this site and newish to cycling and have begun to commute to work and back obviously(16miles round trip) after getting a Bianchi on the Cycle to Work Scheme.

I have always been a fan of cycling and a supporter of the Etape Caledonia and since I recently bought a bike for my commute and want to get fitter/lighter I have decided to set myself a goal, next years Etape.

So thats what I did, I entered yesterday and I am already excited about it, if a little nervous.
All I have to do now is get the miles in I suppose(gulp).

Just one word of warning though I will no doubt become a huge pain in the ar$e on here looking for all kinds of info, tips and advice on training, kit, food etc etc.

Just before I go I'd just like to say I have been reading the forum for the last day or two (mostly about the Etape) and have enjoyed it immensely.

You will hear from me soon, I promise!!

I'm pretty sure it was the bloke below me that was restless that night. I blame nerves myself...

i know i may have a slight snore during the night.. it has been mentioned in passing before... though I would like to think of it a gentle rustling of tissue papers, a nice quiet reassuring noise of a man relaxed and asleep in the company of others. I am sure doogee was going through the motions of living up to the promise that his bike offered... practicing his sprinting, overtaking and positioning as he slept...

I was advised it was me snoring, though as you can imagine, I have never heard myself snore, so its just circumstantial ....

Guys, next year I will happily sleep in the conservatory.... that is if I get invited back!!
