The hour of power, by definition, lasts an hour. I was being flippant.

It IS an excellent training tool, especially for shorter races with explosive bursts regularly interspersed (like a circuit race or crit).

I don't think I've ever actually made it all the way through an HOP. At least not at full strength.

Naw..... that's just a failed attempt at a second HOP. Full marks for the first one though.

I'm incapable of doing an "hour of power" at a decent wattage atm I think, best I could hope is 260W on a good day when fully recovered. That's be on a flat course too, if the course had hills on the turbo then I'd end up over powering.

Maybe try that tabata? I can hold my threshold for up to 5-10 seconds but I reckon with me it's hills that have helped me, go do intervals on Mow Cop

Freehub, your definitions of threshold/ maximum etc are a bit confusing. If you can only hold the power for 5-10 secs it's not threshold.

I've been doing 5 lots of 5second max efforts with 5sec pause. I do 9 sets with 2 min rest inbetween each one. It's a Pete Read workout and over the 6 weeks I've been doing then I've seen my max power go up 16% on the imagic. Not totally scientific and maybe I'm just getting better at the workout but i feel it's a good session.

Peak power is just that. The absolute maximum power you can achieve. Therefore usually measured as your 1 second power.

If it's measured over 5 seconds, it's an AVERAGE.

I can hold my Threshold power for an hour. That's what makes it my threshold. 8)
