I'm a downhill fearing jump avoiding sub 12 stoner so the bike tends to wear out rather than break. Now done about 6000 miles on it.

You know it makes sense
XT cassette is only about 30g heavier than XTR and about half the price also. Plus about 30g lighter than the PG990 and about the same price.0 -
Hmmm - I do like SRAM chains though. And the 990 has nice red bits on it.
I spent ages fretting on whether to get an XT or SLX chainset - in the end, the look of the SLX won me over - me, shallow?
Lovely rings you have there though...0 -

The actual cranks weigh pretty much exactly the same i think - it's the rings that are heavier on the SLX. The BB's are the same also.
I recently replaced my PC991 chain with the KMC X10SL. The SRAM eventually snapped after about 2,000 miles - great chains. How about the hollowpin version? Or the hollowpin 10 speed version?? I nearly bought that but it doesn't come with a removeable link like the 8 and 9 speeds do, so you'd have to buy a KMC "missing link" if, like me, you remove your chain to clean it. In the end i just thought "fcuk it", and bought the KMC.0 -
I'm just used to SRAM chains and have a few spare powerlinks.
Interesting about the SLX/XT. Maybe I'll try and shed a bit of weight after all.
I think hollowpin is asking for trouble - I like light stuff but if it breaks too quickly, I'm not interested. I tend to wear stuff rather than break it - but I do wear stuff out quite rapidly doing quite high mileage.0 -
To be honest from riding both XT and SLX, there is no real shifting diff, a slight weight saving on XT but SLX feels stiffer.
And I'm no jumper or anything but i'd still break it hehe0 -

I think the main weight difference between the two is in the SLX's steel granny ring compared to the XT which is alu. Could be wrong though. The SLX is supposed to be stiffer. I've got XT on mine and fitted SLX to a mates - there's not really much between them. Personally i prefer the look of the XT though, which is why i bought them (they were only £25 more at the time).0 -
Well my bike has a rather strong "black" theme so SLX looked better!
It now also has Hope skewers, carbon fibre bottle cage, Sauserwind tyres and a better computer...!0 -
Got any pics of it with the Sauserwinds on? I put some on mine and they looked like elastic bands! Took them off straight away :oops:0

I have one bike with XT and one with SLX and can no difference in stiffness and shifting at all.Santa Cruz Chameleon

Gotta stamp it a bit but it i still notice them being a bit stiffer than the xt. which fills me with more confidence. but for shifting your right i couldn't tell a bit off difference0 -

Was a bit interesting at times but rapid in a straight line! I think I've found my HONC set up!0

I meant wheel/tire set up. Going on the Tmobile for the HONC though.0
