A friend of mine who is looking at kitting himself out this year, asked who are the better makers of cycle clothing. I recommended the following,

Assos
Castelli
Rapha
Le Col

Any others ??

In the 'well made but more realistic price bracket' I would add Endura.

rapha and le col are not worth the cash, imho.
Assos isn't either, strictly speaking, but still worth it far, far more than the above.

+1 I have a couple of jerseys from Shutt, as well as bib shorts, socks and gilet. All are of a really high quality. The merino sportswool jerseys are incredible and I would chose them over lycra any day. The fact that everything is locally sourced within the UK is another nice aspect.

I bought all of the above for about £200, which I personally think is great value for money. I've not used Assos, I like some of Rapha's style and have a big soft spot for Solo and Campa, but the next jerseys I buy will be from shutt VR (other than the 2010 Bike Pure of course).

Are they (Shutt) paying you for your posts all of which revolve around their clothing range?

dont be soft, people rave on here and other forums about stuff they like all the time.

My recent praise of the Assos winter bibtights I bought must obviously be because Assos pay me vast sums for the airtime. Nothing to do with the fundamental quality of the product itself obviously

You have 63 posts, not 4. Not all as far as I can see on the same subject either. Struck me as odd with some of the commercial plugging of Shutt that has been going on.

I've got 500 but I rate Schutt very highly.

I also like Rapha, but they were crap on the phone yesterday!

OK - I see what you mean, but as a fairly new company its no surprise that people are popping up and talking about their experiences. I havent got any from them (yet - and I will do very soon) but I think people quite like to support the underdog - in this case the new company offering something a little different to the established players in the market. The same thing happens in forums I belong to in other areas. Its a characteristic of forums IMHO that new stuff creates a little buzz and that buzz encourages more people to share their experiences.

No doubt at some point the brand will establish itself to such a point that their very own band of haters form and start to turn every thread into a Rapha type thread series of flaming attacks and arguments

I agree. I like Shutt, good stuff I hope they do well. Their prices were great but recent £10 hike on jerseys was a bit hard to take.

Thanks Bigpikle - Well put... Though I hope the latter is a long time coming as we are genuine cyclists who started a cycle clothing business because we saw a gap in the market...

If we had spare cash I'd rather it went on advertising with C+ and CW to be honest, the Christmas Party or on our wages...

We only started last summer yet it now seems that we are getting our name out to a point where people aren't afraid to come out of the closet and say they have bought our kit. They are always pretty impressed with the value for money and seem fairly vocal.

Back on topic though I rate Prendas for most of their stuff esp the DeFeet gloves that saved me from frostnip on Sunday l rate Rapha caps still have my pink stripped one and love Campag Heritage stuff... If any of those brands want to slip me a pinkie I will happily put it towards their nominated charity..

    :-)

    Best regards, Pete

Flanners1- they just went up to the presale prices and no one mentioned that we dropped the price on 2... :(

If you want an LE for the sale price I will reduce them until the end of the month or until we run out..
