Well, I've finally decided and went out today to buy it.... :D

As you'll see, it came with plastic pedals which will be replaced, but other than that, I'm planning on letting my bank balance recover for quite a while before spending any money on it.

Just need to sort out some Heli-tape to get the frame protected in the right places, and I'll go out and get it dirty.

Spec is totally standard:

Frame: Stumpjumper FSR FACT 9M carbon main triangle
Rear Shock Specialized/Fox AFR Brain Shock
Fork Fox Talas RL (100/120/140mm travel)
Front Mech Shimano SLX
Rear Mech SRAM X0
Shifters SRAM X9
Brakes Custom Avid Elixir CR SL
Wheels Custom DT Swiss

And here are some pics (sorry there are quite a few)

Well I ordered some MG1's today along with some more Heli-tape.

I don't really want to go out on it properly until I've got the exposed bits heli-taped which is easier said than done but I think its worth getting on there at the very beginning.

Great looking bike. SLX front mech a little shocking though.
How much does it weigh out of interest ?

I must confess, I dont know. I'm going to invest in a cheap set of digital scales and I'll get back to you with the actual weight.

I'm going to let the bank balance recover for a while, and I'm sure then I'll get around to changing a few things. Thinking a matching red Noir chainset, red X0 shifters etc We shall see...

Edit: Oh, and whilst I remember, the Brain ? Works very well so far, but I'll really be putting it to the test tomorrow evening.

Well I've just got back from a 2 hour ride on the moors and the bike has certainly lived up to expectations.

Climbed brilliantly, descended even better and the brain system also worked very well when called upon.

Going to take hours to clean the ruddy thing in the morning but well worth it, just hope I put the heli-tape in the right place, will soon see...

Hey mate nice bike. How much of an improvement over your previous (upgraded) boardman pro is it?

I'm not sure whether to add some ritchey carbon to my boardman or upgrade the frame (I'm thinking commencal super 4 carbon).

Your 2c would be appreciated :-)

    Thanks :)

Well, its certainly different. Its no where near as heavy as I had imagined an FS would be, so from that point of view, its great ! For the type of riding that I've started doing its perfect. The Boardman Pro HT was a fantastic bike and I'd have happily kept it for general off roading and fitness duties, but the lower travel and lack of rear sus certainly slowed me down on various sections of the trails I do and I needed the £££ to put towards the Stumpy.

As for upgrading the Boardman...difficult one. Depends if you want to keep a HT as well as having an FS (money didnt permit me to do so otherwise I would have). Personally, given my time again, I'd probably have left the Boardman with the standard ritchey finishing kit and saved the money to put towards an FS so I could keep both. Then upgraded both as and when I could once I had them.

The other option is to take the bits you like from the Boardman and add to a new frame, another thing I'd like to do in the future...

Great Bike mate. I had a Alu version from a local shop to test for a few days, and overall like it, great frame and geo. Still not a fan of the Brain shock, although its much improved over the 09 version.

    A. wow, very, very nice
    B. the 2010 brain is suposed to be awsome, it uses a hydralic motion sensor to see when the back wheel is moving, so that the sus is only active when the wheel is moving rather than the main triangle. am i right?
    C. i dont get why they spec a QR fork on a 160mm AM bike!?!?!?
    I like bikes and stuff

it has the dt rws skewer which is as stiff as 15mm, but lighter and cheaper. ive got one and having done back to back tests with my forks with RWS and a fox float 140 15mm i reckon the rws is actually stiffer

joshtp/mbukman I don't pretend to understand how the Brain works  but from my limited tests so far, it works very well. Previous versions I know have been a bit "slow" to react to the change in terrain and didn't do a great job of taking out the bob.

I can have this turned on fully, and its like riding a HT, ride over a kerb however, and it'll depress as you'd want it to, clever stuff

As for the QR, I know no different, its more than adequate for my riding...(p.s its Fox Talas , up to 140mm travel)

Thanks for the comments :D I'm struggling to keep the wallet in the pocket rather than getting myself some Redwin bits (shifters, Noir Crank etc)...I'm keeping the bling demons at bay so far

I've just ordered one from my LBS. Can't wait. Did you know you get £300 worth of free kit with this bike?
  • jmillen
    jmillen Posts: 627
Yeah I did, but I had all the kit I needed already to be honest, so I got the 10% of the price instead so paid £2700.

The guy in the shop was trying to tempt me with some V12's and a command post but valued the money off more
