Don't understand why people want others to use good kit they've got. I'd much rather you all used rubbish stuff that falls apart and lets you down. Makes me look that much faster...
So yeah, Shimano, what a load of rubbish. Wouldn't buy that stuff, stick with Campag, it's the best!0 -

Also, I don`t know if anyone rates them but the heads on Blackburn track pumps are just terrible IME.
I mentioned Blackburn, but can't agree with Assos.
They're jerseys are fairly normal at a high price, but there's no shorts that come close to
their comfort (even the cheaper Uno ones).0 -
I have the uno ones and they feel good to wear but I don`t find the pad comfy at all, I get a sore arse after 30 miles, I never have that problem with Giordanas. They weren`t cheap either at over £100.Smarter than the average bear.0

Swissstop brake pads. Tried all of them and they're not actually as powerful as people say. I use a harder compound pad which performs better on all rims I own.
Dura Ace everything. Pretty poor for a top-end groupset. Bottom-end SRAM and Campagnolo "feel" much nicer.
Judging my this post, I would suggest you've never owned or tried any of these items for a significant amount of time."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

I have Endura overshoes and they are the best ones I have had.
I also have Dura ace wheels which are the best I have got but not the most expensive by far. Also D Ace Gset and the brakes and gear change are excellent as were my 105's.0 -
I just don't get why Assos stuff is so expensive, is it all silver impregnated to minimize bacterial build up or something?
Is it made in some fancy-dan Italian factory by beautiful young maidens?
Or is it very well marketed?
Bike pedals - why are they so damm expensive, they're pretty simple at the end of the day, let alone tyres!0 -

it's expensive cos it's good!! Simple as that. And yes there are silver fibres in the base layer I have and it's great!!0 -
But expensive does not necessarily mean good.
Nor does cheap mean rubbish either.
So what you're saying is that as it has a good reputation the company fell they can push the price almost as far as they want.0 -
Altura stuff I have tried is not great
Castelli is a bit too expensive for what it is
Apart from that well happy with everything elsex-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I agree with assos, have two jackets which are good, but on;y paid £60 each off ebay The best bib tights I have and I have tried a few, cost £40, Biemme A-Tex very warm and windproof.
Sidi shoes are also way over priced IMO, I have one pair and would not get another, have gone for Shimano shoes this time.0 -
Agree with Altura. I have a few items of theirs bought early on in my road cycling days. The Nevis jacket is a sweatbox as are the waterproof leggings. The latter have found a use as hiking waterproofs though will never see a saddle again.
I'm do like my Castelli stuff though. :roll:0 -
So people are saying that Altura stuff is not great? No shit Sherlock. There's a reason why Rapha, Assos, Castelli are expensive. Because you get what you pay for.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

True dat.
Since I stopped penny pinching and decided (following the purchase of an excellent pair of shorts) that Etxeondo was the way to go with anything special, my life has been a much happier place."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Agree to a certain extent. There will always be customers who get lucky on certain items from the more affordable brands, but overall, with cycling kit it does seem that you get what you pay for. Admittedly, Assos is probably overpriced at RRP, but that's were being patient and waiting for the sales comes in.
For me, I struggle to think of any over rated brands. I love my Oakley Glasses, all my Assos shorts have been comfortable and fitted brilliantly and I don't think I've had a terrible experience with any piece of clothing. Then again, I am sized like a skinny mountain goat, even if I'm not as fast as one.You live and learn. At any rate, you live0 -

Trek, at least the top end road models. They make a zillion of them, they're all over the place, and yet they are (in my market anyway) priced at the sharp end of the scale.
You'd think with economies of scale and all that they would be a bit more competitively priced.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
Blackburn pumps, awful, complete hit and miss if the head stays on the valve over about 80psi.
Nike and Adidas clothing, please stick to making tracksuits and overpriced footie tops.0 -
Fizik saddles. Horrendously priced and I've never found one that was comfortable for more than an hour.0

Haha I wasn't having a dig, honest (my Endura softshell fits me lovely at 5ft11, 10st7).
But I think I have a point: we're all different builds so we'll all find harmony with different brands/lines. My favourite jersey is my Mavic Espoir, it fits like a glove and I plan to buy one or two more.Ben
