just wanted to know what you recommend when full of cold. i went out for thirty yesterday mouth breathing like a guppy. kept it to zones 3 & 4 so as not to over tax my sludgy lungs. coughed like hell once i got home but it didnt seem to kill me. is this sensible or should i take it easy and wait until recovered????

Using the 'above the neck, below the neck' rule it sounds like you should take it easy. An enforced est is never going to do you any harm whereas cycling through an illness could.0

man flu !!
dial 999 right this minute, you should be in intensive care with busty nurses taking care of you 24/70 -
rest or very easy sessions. Exercising can make things worse adn in very unfortunate cases even kill you - which is pretty bad....I've had pericarditis (inflammation of heart sac) many years ago from being stubborn & stupid.. Im still stubborn & stupid but I dont chance it with infections & exercise at all...ever... it simply isnt worth it! Take afew days off, pamper yourself with good food and plenty of sleep and get back into the stride of things graduallyy would be my advice0

if you have got flu you will not be training, you will not lose much fitness by having 2 or 3 days off.going downhill slowly0

If it's only 2 days it really is man flu! I think the real thing would see you laid low for longer than that.0 -
I was out this morning suffering from Tonsillitis and it was a real struggle in fact I wanted to just give up and go back to bed but i managed to do 42 miles.
Better of waiting until you feel better as I had no power or stamina for the hills todayWinter Bike: Specialized Allez Elite

I had a week off end of Feb with a bad cold that lasted two weeks, then got carried away the next week and did lots of riding and turbo sessions with the end result that now the blooming cold/flu has come back and I'm off the bike yet again. So I guess the wise thing to do is to lay up until the worst of the symptoms have gone then ease back slowly without going mad otherwise you will end up like me with a cold for the best part of three weeks now.0

REST REST REST, seriously, I first got a cold 5 weeks ago for 1 week, felt find so started training hard again, 1 week later I was ill again, rested for a week and felt fine so started again, then got ill again, now im taking 2 weeks off to recover properly as from what ive read a cold takes 2 weeks to get rid of a cold.
Ive already lost 3 weeks because of this, plus 2 weeks of not training at my full potential, if only I had given myself more rest I would have only lost 2 weeks and not 5 so far with another week to goCycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0
