Yes, bought it a few weeks back and loved it. One of those films where you go to bed afterwards and play scenes over and over in your head. Great film.

Superb acting by Christoph Waltz who played the Colonel, a real genuine baddie

I found the film extremely funny in places (yeah, you know what he pulls out of his pocket in the barn)

Also the cellar scene where they plot, but are interrupted by the Gestapo man was incredibly tension filled.

Best film in 2009/2010 by far.

Does anybody think he knew Emanuelle was Shosanna in the restaurant with the struedel. When he ordered the milk and then the cream as a reference to her family being dairy farmers ?
I think he did, but because he was promoted, and not "Hunting" he saw himself in a different role and was also looking at a get out at when the allies would catch up to them all. Dunno really.

My friend didn't get it, watching it together, he blurted out what was the point in all that at the end of the the cellar scene...

I however, loved the film, I think it's a touch too long though, however, I'm not sure what QT could have cut out of the film...

I think he knew Emanuelle was Shosanna, that's why he ordered the milk and cream.

Really? I thought he was crap. Overacting in the extreme. He reminded me of Vincent Price.

    Great film overall though.

    Slow start.
    Predictable.
    Too long.
    Over hiped.
Entertaining up to a point. 6.5 out of 10 IMO.

There is alot better out there.

Slow start ? Tension, scene setting menace and very sinister, slow? non monsier.

Found it unpleasant really, not the violence more the racism.

The movie celebrates mass murder of Germans by Jews, which seems a bit dodgy to me.

Well it is based in that era..... I bet it massively dumbed down compared to the real thing.

Heat, Terminator 1 and 2, The Godfather, Fargo (1996), LA Confidential, There will be blood, The Borne Identity (series), Apocalypto, Burn after reading, Deliverance (1972)? I could go on.. the point I'm making, IMO I found all more entertaining than IB.

And I quite like Tarantino, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction andothers were better IMO?

^ I like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Death Proof (being a bit of a petrolhead helps) but I'm not a fan of Kill Bill at all. In fact, I think all the films you listed are great. Fargo especially.

Terminator 1 and 2 are two of my favourite films. Along with Mad Max, Alien and Jaws I think it's one of the best action films ever made.
  • The story/premise was pants. The cinema scene farcical. Brad Pitt was badly cast, but the cellar scene was superbly acted (and shot in one very long continuous take if I remember correctly. I wonder how many attempts it took them to get that?). Christoph Waltz's portrayal was the best thing about the film imo. Unfortunately, the foregone conclusion that will be his Oscar acceptance speech on Monday morning (our time) for Best Supporting Actor is likely going to be as oleagenous as the speeches he gave at the BAFTAS, Cannes, SAG, (and the fifteen or so other award ceremonies). Somehow, I get the feeling he knows his performance was pretty good !

Very good. 10/10 for observation that man!
  • It completely nothinged me. 'Meh' doesn't begin to describe it. Where was this 'black humour'? 'Black dullness' more like. Tarantino very definitely wearing the Emperor's New Clothes I think.

I really like it. Don't know about Brad Pitt being miscast, I thought he worked. His chin deserves "best supporing Actor" gong tho. The basement/pub scene was brilliant, you knew something was going to go off & the tension ramped up slowly, indulgent film making. But I think Tarantino pulled it off.

+several with the glass of milk, he knew who she was for sure. Yet another sinister turn for Hans Lander.
  • I enjoyed it drunk one night over Christmas.. It didn't pretend to be a "greatest generation" historicaly accurate piece, it was like an Uber-Violent update of the Dirty Dozen, with Brad Pitt in the Lee Marvin role, but played as Foghorn Leghorn. Ace fun

A bit too much scalping maybe and the cinema street scene set looked a bit 'Allo allo' but I liked it. At least it was a bit different and Christoph Waltz was clearly having a great time! If you have the DVD, don't forget to watch 'Nations Pride' in full - it is pretty funny. On Youtube as well somewhere. Best extra for any DVD I've seen (or, to put it another way, the only DVD 'extra' I've ever seen that was worth watching).

Not a good one for the women though

  • Personally I thought the film should have been renamed "Hans Landa pisses all over everyone".

Obviously the Oscars didn't agree with you. Never mind eh?

Doesn't really mean much though does it - the Oscars often get it completely wrong.

I thought Waltz was great though. He probably did overact a bit but then so did most of the cast; no doubt intentional.

I liked the film, more because it's the sort of film I like rather than it being an amazing film.

There has been talk of a prequel series, not sure how likely it is though.

I've been deliberately avoiding it up to now because of all the negative reports I've heard from people who are otherwise Tarantino fans.

I don't think this thread is going to change my mind on that - though I'm sure I'll see it on tv late at night, some day.
