London To Bournemouth

Hi All,
I've recently signed up to cycle London to Bournemouth, firstly as part of an organised event, and then secondly with a group of friends some three weeks later. The first being on the 11th of July and the second in early August.
Essentially I'm new to cycling. I commute to work 3-d days a week on my trek 1000 road bike but only cover 7.5 miles each way. I'm keen to make sure that when I come to do the London to bournemouth I'm fit enough to enjoy it and not wollowing in pain.
I'm limited on training time as I've a daughter, a flat that needs decorating and other commitments.
So, essentially I'm afer some advice, how much training should I be doing, how can improve my base fitness, be comfortable with longer distances, recommended training routes (near SW18 in London), good blogs, nutritional advice, and general tips.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Depending on how far the L-B ride is then just gradually work up to around that distance on a weekend ride. If you can find time for say a 2hr ride covering about 30 miles then that is a good start. Shouldn't be too hard if you are riding 3 days a week anyway (surprising how rides to work-even short ones-get you into shape on a bike).
If you havent done 20-30 mile rides before then just go slow to start with and take a couple of bottles of water and a couple of chocolate/cereal bars.0 -
I think the London 2 Bournemoth route will be 118 miles.0
