Vittoria Open Pave Tyres

I'm not looking for advice, i'm giving it.
Buy these tyres! They are the grippiest things ever - Like riding over sticklebricks!
Really take the buzz out of the road for a beautifully smooth ride and at 320tpi they are pretty puncture resistant.
Only had one ride on them and i'm converted
Only drawback is increased rolling resistant - quite noticeable, but proper quality feel.
Like being carried round on grippy marshmallows on the creamy stream of fleet street editor's self-righteous smugness.

at 320tpi and £60 per set I want less rolling resistance - not more. Are you sure about that..?0

Closer to £80 a set. and green only.0

They are great tyres, the best I've used to date and I would say less rolling resistance than both my GP4000s or Ultragatorskins. Not cheap - a cycling luxury but a luxury without doubt. My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0

If they were Celeste I might have ;-)
Just ordered Rubino III's to replace the II's more than happy with them.

I concur. Worth every penny, although I find them to have less rolling resistance than previous tyres.
And the green looks good.0 -
I was just wowed by them...I'm usually using £10-£15 per wheel but after a horrendous winter (and i'm predicting a sloppy spring) I looked at what a great durable grippy in the wet tyre would be like.
I did a bit of research on bike radar and wiggle et al and took a gamble on these....ANd by god they were grippy! I mean really sure under foot. I'm usually a right scaredy cat on descents and I felt in complete control on these.
Also, I stuck them on my commuting hack - An alu giant from the mid-90s (so clattery to say the least) and it felt buttery smooth on the West Yorkshire roads - really noticeable on pot holes. I can see why they have 'pave' in the name.
I'm almost looking forward to rain to really make the most of them.
£65 a pair on Ebay. Do the sensible thing and get a pair. What wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!0 -
Hmmmm you have me wondering if the Rubino III might have been a "false economy". I might need another set of wheels to try them on...
I have just put gatorskins on my bike in Ilkley... potholes are illegal in Ilkley so I should be okay

Trust me, the Open Pave's are in a different league than Rubino's or Gatorskins .... I swapped from Ultra Gatorskins (25's) to the Vittoria and the Gatorskins are like lumps of wood in comparison.
Oh and I like the green too
It's not like I ride a super bike either - it's a 2005 Specialized Allez Elite (all aluminium frame and carbon fork) with Mavic Open Pro 32 spoke wheels - 20lbs all up - and these tyres are a pleasure to ride. Did I mention they look good? 8)My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0 -
My best is a Bianchi San Remo in Celeste, some greens look bad/clash, I know it had Vittoria Romas... nasty tyre in green...Peter Bragg

They have a lovely ride.
You read a lot about them being supple but you can really feel the quality with your hands or on the bike.
Yum.
Others prefer the green side wall, I think the new green stripe looks fing cool.0 -
Apparently they are at their best with latex tubes as well - so I'm considering that upgrade as well - to see if I can notice a difference. My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0

Used to be Krylion Carbons for winter but a very happy Open-Pave convert. I have cache of them and use 'em now for everything but the height of our so-called summer when red tyres are the order of the day for maximum bling.0

I've still got a pair of the limited edition all black ones from a few years back. 8)0

They are in stock at Ribble for £64 a pair. Expensive but I think I am going to buy them this monthx-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

What the best for summer cycling?
I've got some diamante pros on t'other bike which are ok - they feel very different from the pave model. What wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!0 -
The EVO CXII are nice, but only if it's dry. They're crap in the wet.0

I've been keeping my mouth shut so far but...
OPEN PAVES are DA BOM.
Especially the new 320TPI ones...0 -

I was wondering when you were going to give in... so, what's their size like? nominally 24mm, are they more like 25's or 23's? Put bluntly it's a bit of a silly question I know – only 1mm each way – but I prefer larger tyres these days, and as we all know, the number on the side can be approximate.0 -
+ 1 for the Open Paves: they eat up the horrible Scottish winter for breakfast.0
-
They are, well, 24s. Never measured them actually! :shock:0

The Open Pave movement could become as big a cult as the CAAD9 ....
Sadly had my first p***cture today but got the tyre off and on without levers, which was a plus. Also my funky little Lezyne Pressure Drive pump was great at pumping the thing back up to a good pressure - first time it's been used in anger (so to speak). My cycling blog: http://girodilento.com/0 -
Open Paves look fab on bare aluminium CAAD9s...

I am all for the mighty Paves!!
As someone has already said the Evo CX (Tubulars) are not half as good. I stick with the Clincher Paves in winter and Conti Competition tubs for the best bike - Great grip and rolling resistance wet or dry!!
Green looks good on any bike (any excuise to post a piccie)!!!

Unfortunately since I put my 320TPI Pave's on at christmas i've had a crash (oil on a downhill corner) and 4 puntures (notorious section of hedged road - various sections have been cut over the last 2 months/shite conti tubes) which have rather pee'd on the Pave fire.
The tyres are in fact 'Da Bom' as NapD has already said. They ride so well..... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm0 -
I've read somewhere that they cut up quite easily. Is that right? Anyone know how they compare to the GP4000Ss (which I find grip very nicely)?FCN 2-4.
