They'll drill out the hole and tap it (re-thread it) and fit a helicoil to replicate the original threads.
TBH, I wouldn't helicoil a crank if I stripped the threads myself, I'd replace it, and I certainly would accept a bike shop fitting one to overcome their own b@lls up.
Bit of a lash up if you ask me.0 -
Well its the best they would do and to be honest more than i thought i'd get, there story was that there mechanics would never over tighten a pedal and its either my fault or my lbs's who undid the pedal that was to tight in the first place...
the full drive train will be getting replaced next month anyway so i am not overly bothered as long as its 100% working until then and my pedal doesn't fall off!!0 -
so you've had the bike 6 weeks and you have changed forks, twice. stem (soon to be) twice, bars, grips, pedals, saddle, seatpost. Have I missed anything? and now you're talking new frame.
Do the math on what you just did/going to do. To me, it just doesn't make senseFCN 120 -

Good upgrades there, friend, but it's time to get out and ride it!"If you're sleeping', you're not gonna play anything" - John Petrucci, 2004.

I see you have had a new wheel set built up, what are they?
And is that yet another new seat clamp?
Do you work @ chainreaction? :P0 -
The Red clamp i had before was a bolted one and i stripped the head so i bought a black Hope QR clamp for a fiver of a mate for the time being
And there a pair of Mavic Crossrides on sale at my lbs for £80 make the bike look a lot better imo and are lighter0 -
i'm guessing you are upgradig the drivetrain or brakes next?
btw that looks really nice0 -
Just the brakes Avid Elixir 5's then thats it
Be a new frame next when budget allows and new drive train along with it swap original bits back on to the hardrock and use for commuting0 -
What hubs are they on?
I just had to replace chain and cassette and the bottom bracket is on the way out, managed 800 + off road miles though so not too bad for cheap crap! Just did like for like replacement for now, think i will save up for an slx drive train!0 -

There on Mavic branded hubs, i've read there pretty good, run sweet as a dime
yeah i was going to go for an SLX drivetrain upgrade but thinking of waiting until i change frames
dont know whether to save for the P7 (which i really do want and it fits me perfect) or go for an On-One 4560 -
i'd go for a kinesis frame as you have 100mm forks
like this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=150990 -
to quote lawman "130-140mm. 120mm is abit short and lowers the bb" when i was choosing sus forks for my kinesis xc>1200

Very nice and liking the new bits as well
Quite tempted by those grips myself although not sure how they'd look on white bars :?2010 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon

they are such a nice frame when i had toras i set them to around 120mm and the static bb height was 11.8 inches which is stupidly low imo, with them set to 130 it was around 12, and this was fitted with pretty big 2.25 intense tyres, so would be even lower if you ran 2.1s, im running my revelations at 140mm with 2.25 nobby nics and the bb has risen to around 12.5 inches, which i think is about perfect, good stability through corners, but high enough not to ground out pedals. if you want a super light long travel that can take some abuse, you cant do much better than the xc120, althought the new on one 456 carbon looks ace and weighs the same, 1.5 kg0
