Training with broken ribs

Managed to break two ribs on a snowboarding trip this week. Anyone got any training tips or know how I can keep my fitness up while they heal. I'm already itching to get on the bike but think I should give it a week or so first.

I broke a few of my ribs a couple of years ago. I was unable to lift my left arm above my nipples for 4 weeks. All told about 6 weeks before I got on my road bike. In the mean time I used my MTB with slightly lowered seat and swapped over to a higher handlebar for a more upright position.
Other then that, I wouldn't risk too much exercise. It's not worth the pain and risk of infection if you push yourself too far.CAAD9

A team mate broke a few ribs last year. Basicially anything intense is impossible as deep breathing hurts a lot, a is getting out of the saddle at all, as you act of pulling on the bars also caused extreme pain.
Think he just did steady sessions on the turbo to keep him ticking over."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

Ha Ha join the club.....
Road crash sorted mine second week of Feb very painful first week or 2 then slowly back into things...avoiding the gym/weights for the full 6 weeks but back running.
Its just bonded at about 3 weeks but clearly needs more time to fix proper.
Strangely riding (even upright) was really nasty so kept running.
Keep taking full deep breaths now/again as much as you can so they dont impeded breathing...a lot of stuff on the net says avoid painkillers as it impedes bone growth?
Dont laugh/sneeze.......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaachoooo!

I broke some ribs last summer. Let common sense prevail & if they hurt , back off/rest. I had numerous other more serious injuries that prevented me getting on the road but I managed some very steady turbo sessions.
When my leg had healed my ribs weren't far behind, but all told it was 4/5 weeks before I could attempt anything strenuous.
Good luck!0
