  • I came across the ali baba site and their incredible prices(alarm bells),far east addresses(alarm bells),money transfer payment... you get the gist. I then refined my search to uk registered users. A quick search of the addresses using "bing 3D" revealed non existent street names and post codes that were residential properties.I'm no Sherlock Holmes but still found it remarkably easy to see through these shysters.
If you enjoy spotting scammers you will love this site.

    Hi guys
That is my first post in this forum, and I also saw this offers.
After some mails with different of this suppliers and reading your text ozietatts, I'm now pretty sure that all of them are fake.
    Except of one.
I wrote to all of them an e-mail:

    Hi
I'm very interested in your offer but I'm not sure if this isn't a fake.
I have some questions and i really want that you answear all of them. If not we don't have a deal.
    1. Is it really a original cervelo bike?
    2. Is the minimum order quantitiy one bike?
    3. How much is one bike?
    4. Can I pay by paypal?
    5. How long is the top tube in size 58c
    6. How long is the head tube in size 58cm?
    7. Please send me some new made pictures of the bike.
    Sorry that I'm so distrustful
    Thank you

I really had to laugh about some replies. They didn't answered ONE question!
But one of 'em wrote this:

    Hello,
Thanks for your mail and the content werefully noted..note the bike isn't fake..Its Original branded bike which you will see for your self when you get the bike.
Yes..The minimum order is 1 bike..We sell as a sample Order.
The size of the bike is 54
The Total cost for 1 bike + shipping is $2,500USD.
I cant send pictures here on alibaba..

Regarding payment: We stop accepting paypal as a mean of receiving payment due to buyer who send us fake confirmation from PayPal and steal our bikes without paying...
But to guarranty a safe transaction we will allow you deposit the money for your order via western union as your name as the sender and any name as the receiver, you will then send us the details so that we can track payment online via www.westernunion.com .
This is what i mean: Deposit the money via western union in this way:
    Sender's Name: Your Name
    Receiver's Name: Any Name
    Address: 52-54 Tooley Street
    London, Greater London SE1 2SZ
    United Kingdom

Once we have tracked payment online via www.westernunion.com and the link show available,we will know you have the money and you have deposited it..We will then effect shipment and send you the tracking number and airwaybill.
Once you get the bike and you are okay with the quality, you can now change the RECEIVER'S NAME to our name so that we can collect the money..
But can we trust that you will change the receiver's name once you get the bike?
If we can work this way..confirm your order and send us your full name and full shipping address so that we can proceed with the packaging and labeling of your Order.
    Best Regards.

So what dou you think about this now?
Is it also a fake or yould it be real?

Thank you very much for telling me your opinion

    Why pretending to be brits?
I'm from Switzerland and I learn English just in school. So I'm sorry if it isn't perfect...
Must I have the british passport to get the right to post here? So if you can't help pls don't post here and offend other people callig them a scammer.
  • Warning

Is it me who thinks all these low numbered posters are from the same person?

Once you start to look, it's easy to spot the similarities.

Yep, sumfin not right with some of the posts on here. Don't know why they would want to post in such a way but they have the appearance of being decidedly 'dodge'.

Omg what's that for a forum...
I just wanted to get some little, useful answers and made a long post for that and all I got in reply is just shit.
I'm really sorry if I make some mistakes, but my native language isn't english...

Dont you see the difference between my postings and them from the other user/(s) with one post?
They/he said that all this Indonesian offers are faked.
I want to know if I can trust one of them...

But now I think I really got to the wrong address. Instead of writing some useful tips, the users here just make jokes about spelling mistakes...

Rarely seen a forum like that.

See my signature regarding stupid people.

It never ceases to amaze me how gullible and stupid people are whether buyers or scammers. But I guess some people have more money than sense Americans and others would sell their own children as they do in Romania and Indonesia.

If you buy from these scam websites and clearly the scammers are even posting here then you need your head examined. You deserve to lose your money as you shouldn't even be allowed out on your own as you'd probably go out in your jimjams and slippers if unsupervised.

    Unbelievable.

    Moderators lock this thread????????

half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.
  • Good day everyone, first post to this forum here....

I too was suspicious regarding some better than average pricing, but really more impressed by the level of detail put into the website.

    For example http://kingcycle.net/products.php?produ ... ssue-Bike-
Felt AR1 2010 Team Issue Bike for $4999US There is no way you can build one yourself for that much.

They accept PayPal payments as well, very clever.

Paying by Paypal or Credit Card should be pretty safe.

Most of the risk of these methods of payment is actually borne by the vendor - for example if they dispatch goods and the CC is stolen, there will be a charge back and the vendor is out of pocket for the value of the goods.

But take care certainly. I have bought from China, no problems at all and very pleased with the goods.

Mind if I ask where? How was the transaction:pricing, payment, shipping, etc?

    hongfu-bikes.com

    Order was as follows

    Price Weight Description
    $400.00 1150 Frame FM015 58cm (price includes fork,weight includes frame fittings)
    379 Fork FK007 (35g trimmed)
    $15.00 82 Headset Neco 1 x top 1-1/8,down 1-1/2 (weight w/o 42g top cap + plug)
    $38.00 208 Seatpost SP003 (includes seat bracket)
    $25.00 158 Stem "Road alloy+carbon stem" 100mm
    $60.00 276 Handlebar HB003 440mm
    $13.50 30 Bottle Cage FD010
    $90.00 Shipping from China (EMS)

    £414.63 2283 Total from hongfu-bikes.com = $641.50

Paid via paypal, you can track EMS package all the way from China to your local sorting depot. Only one tiny problem - the rear drop out on the drive side was slightly too tight, so the rear axle would not fit in. Solved quite easily by just scraping away a little bit of material.
  • Interesting new twist to these scams the other day. I received actual snail-mail letters, postmarked from the UK, and addressed to me at home, advising the usual we-have-millions-for-you drivel.

The scammers can now afford to post real letters! Must be making money somewhere...

    Brilliant.

I bet they are using forums like this to gauge what bilkes are sought after so they can then build their website around it.

I wonder if we could join forces and mess them around a bit by placing orders and then asking loads of questions and never follow up with the money.

A forum beer to the person who gets the best email trail with one

Hi Cristian, you still advertise the Mojo on several websites. I don\'t believe you want to ship my bike. I don\'t get any contact. Maybe on this way. You promised me to ship the bike on 14.th of September. Now I want to get the tracking number. If you don\'t want to close our deal let me know. You have 2 opportunities. Send back my 640 USD without any complication or sending the bike. I allways told you that I will pay the rest of our deal after getting the bike. Why don\'t you fulfill our agreement. If you have any problems with your provider let me know. You also are not available under your cellphone. You can be sure if I don\'t get any answer I will contact the indonesian ambassy in Berlin to create further steps to get my money back. So you can decide till end of this week.
