For the first time i have just seen somethign about the Garmin connect.

I would love the chance to capture my data or rides that i have done and all the extras you can do with Garmin Connect, but thats as much knowledge as i have.

What do i need to get, is it a sat nav or like a watch that you wear???

Any advise please.

  • I use a garmin edge 705 and it uploads directly to garmin connect. very clever bit of kit with all the features of a good computer but with mapping and routing included

    have a look at

    http://connect.garmin.com to learn more

and here is a sample of what i get after uploading

Been using Garmin connect for a couple of weeks and it's very easy to download and view your data, but it doesn't seen to give much heart rate data, for example time in zones. Seems a bit daft when you've entered all that info and can't see the data, or am i missing something?
What does RideWithGPS do that's better?

Personal preference really, I find it much better, much much more information and the integrated ability to create routes.

Fair enough, I'll give it a go. Time in zones???

    Try using training centre.
    It has more "zone" info.

Thanks for the tip but still think for ease of use Garmin Connect is easier although just found my favourite ride has a steady 17% climb and only thought it was around 15% so happy now!

If you're a mac user, RubiTracks is better... way better than Garmin Connect!

Over Rivington from the Reservoir to Belmont. The last bit past the car park always kills me.

I did it over Christmas and ended up in a Blizzard at the top, that was fun and no way was I going downhill to Belmont. Stopped for a breather at the top turned round and my cleats were frozen and had to ride down uncleated!

Rather you than me, I only do it in good weather. Wasn`t the road up there covered in snow and ice at christmas?

It was clear all the way until it flattens out at the top and I then felt a strange urge to cycle through the slush. Big mistake, looks OK for this weekend so will probably give it a ago again.

Does the Gramin training Centre allow you to put together a programme. What I would like to upload to my edge 705 is things like 5mins at 100rpm @ 70% MHR, then 2 mins at 80 rpm @ 90%.

Or pyramids, will it let me do that huh?

you can certainly specify cadence levels over a given time but not sure if you can link i to MHR at the same time.

I have uploaded data on to Garmin Training Centre but I cannot work out what Pace means, it is probably something quite obvious but the figures are very low.

pace is how many minutes you are taking to cover each mile (or km if set meric)
