That's basically it isn't it. Freedom of choice. At the end of the day that's all that matters. If you are happy with your purchasing decisions.

Kit such as Assos and Rapha are expensive for a reason. Yes you are paying for r and d and marketing etc but you are always paying for quality, no matter where the garment is made. And if you're not getting that quality then they usually are good at returns etc.

Mind you, even Rapha can be guilty of illusions of grandeur, their new Embrocation and Chamois Cream is 'scented to evoke Mont Ventoux.' I mean, wtf?

I'm sorry but £125 for a friggin cycling jersey? Rapha can go do one - I don't care if it's made from the fleece of a unicorn. I'll stick to DHB thanks very much.

Stick to DHB, it's about as good as the Aldi stuff! My Rapha kit gets used, the DHB stuff was used once and never again.

I'm still using my Crane Sports Winter jersey and Merino wool baselayer (both ALDI) 18 mths down the line. SNOB SNOB SNOBBERY!!!!!!

    :D:D:D

Seriously, I have no Rapha kit, and no desire to buy any. But I have to assume that the superior quality is not illusory, and I agree with most of the comments about how if you want it, then you can buy it.

It's just that I find the attachment that people have to their much-loved brands a bit strange, and it's such fun pushing their buttons

I find it just as funny to hear people bragging about their Aldi gear! I have no problem what people choose to buy, I cannot believe this is even an issue for some people.

I've just got meself a Rapha l/s jersey, and it's bloody lovely. I also wear DHB and Thchibo, for what it's worth.
  • I'm quite happy to try out any new kit and give an honest, unbiased appraisal, if it helps? Rapha, DHB, whatever. I'll even test out new bikes :D

If you want quality merino wool for much less than Rapha try this for only £59!!!!!! http://shuttvr.com/productdetail.php?id=F_ShuttNo5 looks great, brilliant quality and made in britain. I got my 1st Shutt jersey this week and its up there with the Assos stuff I have got for quality. Go on, be a bit different.

Well, I have just bought a country jersey and I must say, its top kit. Never owned Rapha before. Great fit, nice feel and well made.

Assos is the only brand worth paying for. Even then, it is over priced.

So it's not worth the money then?

I have rapha kit (bought in the sales) and its very nice. Not worth the full price though - that's just silly money.
I also have assos shorts and they're no more comfy than my cheaper club kit but they are nice quality. My dhb longs are the best I've worn and are excellent value. My aldi kit is very good - not as stylish maybe but great value and works well.

At Shutt VR, we design and manufacture everything in the UK to fit real cyclists. You'd be just an XL for us, I am 6'2" and big bones so I can do Large for Race Fit, XL for something looser for touring...

We can even do custom work if you don't see anything you like. Plus we also offer a no quibble exchange/refund policy.

Do as TiBoy say and give us a try!

Take a look here for a sneak peak of our new 2010 range being road tested...

Not sure I know what you mean. I could lurk here and pretend to be someone other than a Shutt employee but choose not to... :)

BTW we have and will continue to advertise with Future Publishing. Next month I am coming down to Bath to meet with them.. They were excited about our press release on our recent sponsorship of Orbea-FGS and are keen to see our new kit.

    Thanks Alex

    Yes, we know Steve...

Wasn't attempting to offload product, just agreeing with an earlier posting, adding some information on sizing while linking it to a picture on our Facebook fan page.

Sorry if anyone finds that abusive, I was just trying to be helpful and honest...

It was the "Go for Shutt VR" that did it for me...

Plus the fact you haven't contributed much else to the board.

Hmmmm, I know, in the 4 plus years I have been a member I have been using the excellent resources available rather than posting away... though its not a crime to be a relative newbie is it?

I will see if I can address matters and I will try and continue to offer advise if I am able to.. Now I will leave this post to go its own way.

No, it's not a crime at all, but when you barely post at all except to push your wares I feel it's bad form.

Advice is fine but not persuasive selling when you have a vested business interest...

TiBoy was the first to mention Shutt - maybe you should be directing your officiousness at him...

TiBoy doesn't have a vested interest in it...

    Why is it 'officiousness'?

If the forum starts becoming a place where companies infiltrate threads with adverts as opposed to customer service queries then it will be very sad indeed.

lots of vendors post on here. I don't see you getting upset with the PX guy, or Boardman.

Or maybe it is because someone has the sheer audacity to suggest an alternative to Rapha... ;)

PX Guy and Boardman came on here to address customer service issues as I stated. There are many alternatives to Rapha and I have no qualms whatsoever with what people buy...

Although this has wandered off topic can I say how good Schutt VR's stuff is, the White Rose jersey is very nice, and at least as good as my Rapha one.

    Facebook? No. Just say no.
  • Just to add in my 10p's worth, I've had two items of Rapha clothing and wasn't very impressed with either. One got sent back and the other got used a couple of times and now lurks someone at the bottom of the clothes drawer.

If I'm going to buy some expensive kit, I'd rather have some Assos. But as has already been said, if you want to buy some Rapha or Aldi kit then I'm happy for you. Honest, I really am :D

But I do wonder when the trend for understated clothing will come to an end. There has to be some point when it's seen at not being cool anymore and spangly kit come back into fashion. And I have a wardrobe full of kit waiting for when that happens :D

The only bad kit I've ever bought was a pair of cheap decathlon shorts when I first started riding. I have some cheap (5-10 quid) decathlon tops I use all the time though.

I now have kit from all sorts of manufacturers at different price ranges. It's all good with varying degress of goodness.

The only top I bought that I don't like is a Colomba peace race jersey. That's due to the fit and the location of the stitching across the chest.
