Ok so I went on a 20miler today and my Forerunner 310XT for some reason failed on me - apparently it took me just over an hour to 3.90miles on 03 FEB 10 at 1748 (which was all lies). It got cadence, HR and time right but NO route data.
I use Rubitrak for my mac and can set up a manual acitivity and have used map my ride to plot the route but I can't get them both to merge so I have a manual input with route data. I've saved all the workout details onto the route in mapmyride but can't export it because I'm not a gold member and don't really wish to pay for hopefully just one GPS failure!
Any suggestions please? Googling has not given me much help. BIt annoyed as well because it was a dam good ride and I have no splits

Have you tried downloading the ride data to a different application such as SportTracks or Garmin TC? (Sorry, don't know if these are Mac compatible - just using them as examples). If you can do this, you can at least isolate whether the 'fault' lies with the interpretation of the data (ie the Application on your Mac) or the GPS itself. If it's the GPS, I'd make sure you have the latest firmware (go to the Garmin site), then look in the manual and perform a 'soft reset'. Take it out on a short ride or even when walking the dog (another assumption!) and then see if it is closer to reality.
I own a few Garmins (a 101 for the hills and work, 405 for running and 705 for bike) and the only problem they've ever given me was the 705 auto-shutting off. A soft reset cured that.0 -
Not sure why it didn't work properly, now reads correct time etc.
RubiTrack say they're going to add manual merge function on a later edition so I'll just wait out for that - I can import the route from map my run with no workout data but can't edit in Rubitrack, or can have just the work out data no route..... ah well!0 -
