Merlins may not be flash but they are quality kit for the price. Nice

I must admit, that is lovely, was tempted by one of these a while ago but not sure about the blue font on the frame. Definitely looks a lot nicer in the flesh.
Great bike, how does it ride?
  • It rides a treat, its nothing fancy spec wise but it does everything I need it to do with no problem. Its a pleasure to ride, carn't stop smiling when I'm on it, know I could have spent the same cash on some other major brands & got alot less for my money, spec wise.

Very nice! I built a mate one of those last year - they really are nice frames.

Was basically built from leftovers/spares other than the frame and groupset:

i thought they were. I was thinkin of gettin those they look really good. Are they quite grippy?

Yeh, they have plenty of grip. Went up round Staverley yesterday never slipped off once, Great pedals, they are the cheaper ones Merlin do. Will look at the next ones up when the bearings fail in them. 10/10 for value & performance.

Cool, what spec have you gone with? I've just been doing local rides recently. Heading back up to the lakes the weekend after easter to do Whinnlatter or the North face @ Grizedale.

Nice. I'm a bit of a silver bike whore on the qt, so naturally find that quite sexy.

out of interest where did you get the specialized seat pack from?

Nice spec, you will have to get some pictures on here when you get it. If it comes with a Ritchey seat you may want to swop it, I carn't get used to the one on mine. Thinking of swopping it to a WTB one. I got the specialized seat pack from wiggle a few years ago. What i remember it didn't cost alot.

Nice bikes guys; after a lot of research and comparing specs I ordered a Malt one yesterday with SLX groupset and Recon forks. I'm like a kid before Xmas waiting for it to arrive now!! Always wanted a GT Zaskar to replace my aged but much loved 1991 GT Tequesta (very old school I know) but the Merlin seems to tick all of my wants boxes for a lot less of my hard earned readies. Will post some photos when it arrives.

What frame size is your bike?
Im in the process of ordering one but cant decide what frame size to get.
Im 5'10" with approx 32" inside leg.

Hi there Richy, I am 6 foot with a 32 inch leg and went for the 19 inch frame; have a look at my bike in the forum to check the saddle height. If I were you I would think about going for the 17" frame as the 19" may come up a bit big. The Raceface seatpins are pretty long too. Good choice of bike; hope you enjoy, I love mine! What spec are you going for? :D

Hi Richy555. I am the the same height and inside leg measurements as yourself. I have a 17'' frame on my malt1. It fits me fine, was thinking of getting a 19'', but I'm glad I went with a 17'' frame. I use the bike both on and off road and have found the size is fine for both types of riding. Hope that is of some help to you. They are great bikes both spec and cost wise, carn't fault them.

    Decisions decisions...
Either way its gonna cost approx £30 in fuel or the same for delivery.

So guys, for a 5ft 10" guy with a 31" inside leg (basically Mr average arm and body length) you would definitely reccommend a 17" for on road and light trail use? I will be rising a lot in the Swiss mountains on a mix of roads and mountain trails. :)

My Cycle to work Scheme through Halfords will let me order one of these, or even the Malt 2 as there's a discount at the moment. Fingers crossed all goes well in ordering.

Yeh, picked them to match the bike. Only been round the block with them seemed good, better than the standard ones. Going to give them a proper test over the weekend.
