Back in the saddle

I cycled to work today.

For the first time in 11 months.

I was credit crunched last March and had a blissful 11 months off work. Started a new job last Tuesday and cycled in for the first time this morning.

It was great fun, and it's so good to be back. Though I swear every single set of traffic lights (and there are thousands, if not millions) up the Old Kent Road and through Borough and then the City was against me.

A huge thanks to the guy who helped me with directions around Borough and up to Southwark Bridge, without your guidance I'd probably still be going round in circles. And enjoy your upcoming break from work.

:D

Oooh, it was me that guided you to Southwark Bridge!
Clearly being on my Pearson fixie, and wearing my comedy headband didn't put you off asking directions. Always glad to help out a fellow cyclist, and such a weird coincidence that as you start a new job, I'm just about to embark on a life of leisure.

I've had to stop lurking on this site and finally register to post this, so I hope this first post works!
  • Aw! See, cycling bringing strangers together....

    Nope. We can't read a thing :D

Nice one on helping a damsel in distress. We are fully aware of Fiona's sense of direction.

Nope I am NEVER going to let that one go

Congrats on the new job, you.

Thanks guys for the good wishes. The job's going well, though I have a Mount Everest to speed climb in terms of what I need to learn. Obviously, using BR in office time helps enormously with that.

No, no cyclescheme (there are only 5 of us), but, whisper it, I don't need another bike.

Since when does 'need' come into it?

Had to explain that to my neighbour the other day :)

Well done, something may have developed my way and I thought about you! Still, glad you got a new job.

    No!!

Quick, someone, there's a potentially catastrophic bug in BR.

I did say that. Am I still allowed in BR?

    Congratulations on your new job

I'd not realised you were not working.

Cycling to work is brilliant - I did 30 miles today up from Crawley to work and loved every minute of it, even in the ice and fog

Congrats! Can't remember if I mentioned but don't go through Borough, it's just stop start traffic/traffic lights and lemming pedestrians walking in front of you. I turn right at Bricklayers towards Tower Bridge, then off up Bermondsey Street, under the tracks of London Bridge station, left on Tooley St then right to cross London Bridge, much quicker and less hassle
