Spinning as active recovery

I just read an article (don't hate me, but it was in a triathlon magazine) that referred to spinning as a way of doing active recovery.
Now, maybe i'm unusual - and it isn't because I am not fit, but after 45 minutes spinning I'm pretty ruined. I do most of the 45 mins between 80-100% MHR, with the odd bit between 70-80%, which is definitely not active recovery!
It feels like what a lot of people on here make their turbo sessions sound like... i.e. not easy and not recovery.
Please can someone tell me how spinning can be active recovery?! Unless you actually sit there taking it easy and not pushing yourself and then collapsing into the sweat pool you have generated beneath your bike. In which case, why bother doing it?

Are you sure it meant a spinning CLASS?
If you're just out on the bike (or indoors on the bike) and just spinning your legs - as in not putting any power down, but just turning the pedals over, low resistance, any speed, etc - then this can be considered as active recovery.
But if you mean one of those gym spinning classes - then forget it.0 -
Yes - it was specifically talking about winter training and therefore indoor activities such as a spinning class.
Maybe the author was one of those people that do a spinning calss without breaking a sweat or ruiing hair/nails/make-up... Maybe just to have a chat and ogle the ladies in lycra.0 -
'Active recover' is one of those little throwaway phrases that I try to stick clear of saying as it means very little to a lot of people.
To recover and spin out the legs the following day after a hard training session is something to add into a training plan.
You do have to control your HR however and it sounds as tho you have just been giving it the beans in the class.
Recovery = chill.
You stick yourself at back of class , admire the view and ignore the bollox from the instructor.0
