  • I saw that advertised and thought it looked a bit of a bargain. Definitely a classic frame.

I've had 2 , the DH and the XC version, both nice,
Climbed well for a single-pivot, but not too great descending technical stuff as the rear locked up, making the brakes useless.
Suppose the new floating rear brake would solve that now.
    Nice bikes overall.

That bike was 10 years (at least) ahead of its time. Glad to see some are still going almost 20 years later.

Wow, awesome, awesome bike! This was my (and many others I'm sure) ultimate bike when I was growing up. Someone in MBUK had one I think, was it Rob Warner perhaps? Good find, and the build looks excellent. Let us know how it goes. As others have said, it was so far ahead of its time it looked like it came from another world. A world where uphills didnt exist....

Does anyone remember the hard tail version? I seem to remember it in a deep blue that i thought looked amazing at the time too.

Off to look over in ebay to see if there are anymore about now, damn you for reminding me of this.....

Paul Smith. He still has it with prostop brakes, upside down single crowned forks with Risse internals, smoke/dart tyres...and his Troy Lee open face lid. Proper retro job.

yeah the upside down forks were called suspenders!

and prostop brakes are like gold dust now

what travel are you getting out of the rear? They are some pretty beefy forks you have on there.
  • First of all...that is SICK. Well done. I'm currently trying to upgrade my SA - pain in the ass. I'd like to increase the height in the front end a bit, cause I'm more comfortable with that kind of tilted geometry. It looks like You've added a spacer above the head tube to raise up the stem. Where did you find such a simple, yet exquisite, piece of hardware?

    Thanks,
    Kenny

I'm sure those frames are only 4"/5".... i can't help thinking the fork is a little overkill

rear shock will be around 5-6'' travel.........i have a fox one waiting to go on.

i know it seems like overkill, same as the brakes, it probaly is as i wont be going crazy witth the bike.

i have a second san andreas waiting to be built up. this one will be 4'' travel front and rear, and will be used for red/black routes aswell as normal single track.......check it out.

I saw that on retrobike last night, looks very nice in that brushed metal/grey. What rear shock is that?

On your yellow one, after riding it, you might find it to be very unstable due to it having an abnormally high BB, especially after putting an extra long shock on it. Though i suppose it will quicken the steering up a little...

The forks on the San Andreas on the cover of that MBUK above look interesting. Any more info on those?
  • There was a big feature on these very recently, as a kinda nostalgia thing.
