Rollers - Word of Caution

I've just back in from the shed after an hour on the rollers. So far so good.

When I picked up the rollers to move them, I was surprised at how floppy they were and when I checked the bolts that hold the rollers to the frame all 6 of them were loose.

Like really loose.

I reckon at least a couple were about ready to drop out.....

I bought my rollers second hand just before Christmas, but they were only a couple of months old. The original buyer had only bought them in Sept '09, so I don't know if it's that they'd never been tightened correctly or have just worked loose.

Just felt it was worth mentioning it, as I reckon if a bolt had fallen out it could have been nasty. I'll be checking them regularly from now on.

  • May be wise to use some thread lock on those bolts to stop the vibrations working them lose again.

Or you could use some Nylock nuts, not as messy as thread lock paste.

    Which rollers are they?

Checked mine the other day and they were fine after loads of abuse.
  • Sorry, have forgotten I'd posted this. They're Tacx Antares, but I'm not sure it's model specific.

I've used them a couple of times since with no problems. If they work loose again I'll try locktite.

It's possible that they were never built properly from the start as they'd been made up when I bought them and never thought to check.

It just shocked me how loose they were.

One benefit has been that they're now easier to ride on and stay balanced.
