Love the bike, just wondered if you could give us an update on how it's going.
I tried out an Epic at the weekend and really enjoyed it, this would be my first full sus bike and just wanted to get some feedback from someone who is running one before I take the plunge.
Cheers!XC: Giant Anthem X

I've tested an S-Works Epic and it was extremely fast - it's basically a road bike for the mountain.
Stamp on the pedals and the power transfer is instant. Narrow bars (by today’s standards) and a long cockpit set you up into racing mode. It’s a perfect bike to extract every ounce of your fitness to the trail.
If you’re looking for something a bit more fun and forgiving for trail center riding then get a Stumpjumper FSR with more travel and slacker angles.

Although I agree that it is a racing machine, I also think it is a far better ride than the Stumpy (tried one of those out a couple of weeks back). The Stumpy felt far too upright and bouncy to be a good XC ride, and as you said, it felt more like a fun bike. Although I loved being able to power through the bumps/roots without feeling a thing it just felt like I was riding around on a pogo-stick (yes I did experiment with the various suspension settings, even after have them set up correctly for me in the shop).
On the Epic you can feel the bumps more (than the stupmy), but they don't shove your saddle up your @rse like a hardtail. I finished my ride feeling a lot fresher than I do normally.XC: Giant Anthem X

Hey PaulBox if you grab yourself an Epic you wont regret it .... i love mine to bits, im not the best rider in the world but feel more confident in my riding knowing i have this bike supporting my fat arse :? lol .... i've had the bike a few months and not been affraid to tackle any trails that have popped up... the 100mm travel soaks up most things i've ridden. I would definitely recommend buying one0 -

I have plenty of fun on my bike ..... i think that the epic is certainly a racing beast but i feel confident in riding anything on it .... within reason :?0 -

Cool, I think I'm sold, now just need to decide whether to up my budget to the carbon model like yours...

Nice one PaulBox good choice i've had no issues @ all with the bike, i do about 100+ miles a week at the moment and it runs great always ....
Yeah the budget thing was a issue for me ... but then i thought sod it and got the carbon model.... and dealt with the bank balance at a later date lol...
I've not ridden the non carbon version but i think it would still be a sweet ride... whichever one you choose you will love it :P0 -
Don't worry about Carbon - it'll be fine.
I've been running my Carbon Enduro SL for 2 years over rocky terrain containing jumps and drop offs and it hasn't missed a beat.Specialized Enduro SL Pro Carbon

That's very nice 8)
How are the XTR rims ?
I'm guessing you're using 6 blot adaptors with the original Avid discs ?0 -
How are you finding the Carbon WCS finishing kit? Any issues?0

Cheers *AL*
Rims are holding up great
I had to use the the 6bolt adapters it was the cheapest option for me after my insuance claim. I did a bit of jiggery pokery with the insuance company and i ended up with the Epic Bike, Set of XTR wheels and 2 160mm XTR rotors (flogged on eBay).
The adapters were on £14 each from JE James and i thought it was the easiest and cheapest option for getting the wheels on the bike
I'm not sure if it would have been better to put the XTR rotors on and to use different brake calipers or adapters ? i just thought that option was the more expensive
But they are running sweet anyway0 -
Stoo61 wrote:How are you finding the Carbon WCS finishing kit? Any issues?
The Carbon stuff is great not had any probs at all ... i must admit i was sh*ting it a little after i put it all on and then reading about the carbon paste stuff you can buy to stop it moving or slipping..... but i have been keeping an eye on it and it aint budged so far so i think its all good :?
Looks pretty cool too0 -
I'm looking at wheels for my Epic atm.
I'm considering XTR rims amongst others but weighing up the rotor options.
I've found Avid centrelock rotors (185/160) on the web today which are slightly pricer than the std rotors, but my current Epic discs would fit straight onto my stumpy, so at least I can make use of them in the future.
Decisions, decisions....0
