Campag Koolstops much thicker than Shimano koolstops?

Yeah they are - the salmon compound is much softer than their standard black compound - it's a soft compound specifically aimed at wet weather riding.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

Honestly, how can that be freaking hard? They look alarmingly thin and they are BRAND NEW there FFS, my OLD shimano blocks are thicker than those when I bin em..... I have seen the campag koolstops and that's why I thought wtf, because they are indeed allot smaller and was wondering if they all are, of if I've got a dud set.
They're 7 quid, I'm not about to shell out 7 quid for a pair of brake blocks when they don't even last that long, I can't just throw away money like you can
Calm down. I'm working on your problem. I'm having a bit of difficulty though, because
the only AA batteries I have are Everyready and I can't get a good comparison against your brand.0 -

Quit taking the p!ss, I wanted a normal answer.TommyEss wrote:Yeah they are - the salmon compound is much softer than their standard black compound - it's a soft compound specifically aimed at wet weather riding.
Still not "uber soft" tho, I am using them atm. It was not about how long they lasted anyway.0 -

A NORMAL answer???? On a cycling forum???? And just who on A CYCLING FORUM would do something like this???
Sorry, couldn't resist.0 -
No Will, you do not have a dud set, mine are the same as yours. Unless of course we've both been sold dud sets by Wiggle...0

I've got some Campa koolstops, but they're black and completely worn so would be a poor comparison.0

freehub wrote:As above, is this the case? I looked at some campag ones and am sure they're much ticker and abit longer too? If so, seems abit of a rip off the Shimano ones.
As has been proven many times on this forum Shimano is the undisputed King of components. Campy but a very pale shadow. What you're seeing here is Campy
"fluff"(i.e. bigger is better) and Shimano "function"(i.e. smaller, more aero, less weight, lower profile).0 -

I dont think you got a duff set, I reckon koolstop probably made a smaller mould specifically for you...
Whats with the bad attitude anyway? time of the month?0 -

My bad attitude is due to the attitude of other people who posted in the thread. And if you can't see it then you need to get to specsavers.0 -

"Uber" - meaning "above all" - they are the softest they make, ergo, uber soft is perfectly correct usage.
Have to say though, I have rather lost the point of this thread - had you thought that perhaps there is more filler at the back of the Campagnolo holder, i.e. a bigger recess, so the block needs to be deeper in order to reach the rim?
Either way, a brake block is a brake block - like others have said, buy the one that fits. And no, the Campagnolo ones won't fit in the Shimano holders without a massive bodge - and if they're thicker, that would probably also include letting out a lot of cable to stop them fouling the rims.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
Will, buy a new bike equipped to match the bigger pads."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

You could have been. A mate had a summer job at the Wiggle warehouse, and he was always perplexed by something that happened everyday.
A midget used to walk into a small room carrying a box and a small nail file. He'd then lock the door and only emerge at 5:00pm. One day he noticed the box had the word 'kool' on it but couldn't work out what else it said. Then the day before my mate left to go back to Uni, the midget left the door unlocked at 5:00pm. So making sure no one saw, he sneaked into the room.
All there was in there was a little chair, a little table and a little table lamp. But in the corner was a massive bin, with a ladder propped against it. My mate climbed the ladder and peered into the bin. All he found was a conical orange mound comprised of debris and dust poking up from the depths, just like the spice jars in Morocco.
Sadly my mate inhaled some of the orange dust and died of lung related problems. When his lungs were cut open at the Post Mortem, the doctor said it was like opening a can of Tango.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

The point to this thread was clear, just it's filled with trolls now. There is nothing wrong with questioning the thickness of the pads, if they are supposed to wear down quicker, then why make them extremely thin, the same price as the campag koolstops too. The actual braking surface is much thicker on the campag koolstops from what I have seen.
I asked would the Campag cartridge that the brake blocks slot in fit on 105 calipers. Not will the brake blocks fitt in a Shimano cartridge.
I know how to adjust brakes, and I know that thicker pads would not cause a problem since the Shimano standard pads are allot thicker.hopper1 wrote:

I think you may have a point there. A midget turned up to clean my chimney last friday (I kid you not). Now, lo and behold, I have skinny Koolstop pads on my bike. Coincidence? I think not...0
