Which is why they have dog handlers. Narrows it down a bit. I'm sure they have a good idea.0 -
they might have a good idea of what it's not. i.e. they've managed to rule some things out. Doesn't mean they're 100% certain of what it actually is. Media fuss will quickly die down and then there'll be no need to release any details. If suffer we must, let's suffer on the heights. (Victor Hugo).0

Limited info released (for obvious reasons) and media speculation results in public misconception..0

Britain is sending the Royal Fleet Auxiliary supply ship Largs Bay. ie the RFA Largs Bay. Listen with both ears and entire brain next time.
I also heard the PM say RAF instead of RFA, during PM's questions0 -

I was in London at the weekend - looking round the V&A museum (not as good as the National History Museum IMHO) and a bloke had dropped a glove. A girl bent down to pick it up - and her boyfriend nearly broke her arm 'NOOOO DONT TOUCH ITTTT'.
I can only think that he thought it could be some sort of advanced booby trap ? Very odd.0 -

Thanks for your few kind words.
You’re right of course. My terseness at your sneering reaction, to what was probably a verbal lapse by the PM in the first place; and interpreted by you as a belief that he really thought the relief vessel was a plane and not a boat, was not justified by my annoyance at any perceived ill informed ignorant rant on your part.
Such an over reaction from you would be unthinkable, and there is certainly no evidence in your reply above that, when provoked, you rampage over your keyboard like a Tasmanian Devil on speed. No evidence, zero, absence of, none at all. Ever. Is there?
I’ll refrain from comparing you to any part of the human body or creating any other abusive rejoinder. For several reasons, but mainly through having a sense of perspective.Where the neon madmen climb0 -

But, we can't be told what type of threat,
or to who,
or where,
how or
even when...
So, we have to keep a look-out for...I dunno what!
But, if there is an attack, the Govt will say "See, we told you so!"
Top Secret? More like Top Cat!
Here's the deal... and this is FACT (unlike Rafa Benitez fact).
The threat assesment is a way of ensuring a level of response. Each major emergency service etc. has a guide on what to do to prepare for the threat level. It is meant to inform those services, and justify the staffing and costs needed in return. It was always "secret" as it was meaningless for the general public (never a complete secret - on the GPMS level of the word).
Due to huge public awareness (curiosity) the government decided to publish it, as most journos were printing it anyway.
Now the same public that wanted it complain it is meaningless, as they can't be told WHY.
You are not meant to know why- just that it means added security measures, and helps infomr those that need to help you.
If you have a problem, perhaps you'd prefer it to be "secret" again?0 -
End of sermon - ps I aint read the whole thread so sorry if this is boring. Seems like yet another weasely argument.

you are confusing the old established MoD 'bikini' code with the media-friendly 'threat level' - the two are not the same.
One is a genuine threat assessment, while the other is a complete load of PR toss.0 -

No I'm not. This is public services, mainly, not the military.
Ask NapD about CONTEST.
It aint PR, it is pandering to PR. The threat level does mean something to those that have to put armed cops out, or to provide s.44 powers etc.
And to VIP visits, or protection of certain people.
I'm not confused. Sorry.0 -
There seems to be two people having a girl fight in the middle of this!0

There is a wonderful irony here....
'ask NapD about 'contest' - what, that trendy acronym for the Home Office's 'counter terrorism strategy' - and you have the cheek to say it's not about PR...??
'Contest' - the name even sounds 'media friendly' - appropriately 'confrontational' but without being too aggressive....I like it...0 -
Bikini States, all i remember of them is that when it went to "Amber" you could not turn up for duty too pi55ed. Them were the days0
