The same issue also tested the BMC SLR01, and with Red gruppo, and Zipp wheels, it cost half the price (10 grand instead of 20!) and weighed 6060gms, with pretty much all the weight difference coming from the frameset and wheels.
How can they be £20k when the groupset can be had for 2k? You can buy a complete Focus with Di2 for £4.5 (on sale at Wiggle for £3.4!).
And BTW they are heavy 'cos of the frame not the groupset, whoever it was said it was due to the electronics. Still look nice though, just not £20k nice0 -

Yes the frame is heavy, but Di2 is heavier than mechanical 7900, Shimano Wheels aren't the lightest, and Deda stuff is rather heavy0 -

Er, just for clarification, the price of 20 grand quoted (and any other amounts) are in AUSTRALIAN dollars, because this is where I live.
In GBP, that's about 11.5 thousand at the moment.
Does that add up now?Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -

Less than 70grms heavier so not really a deal breaker is it?Er, just for clarification, the price of 20 grand quoted (and any other amounts) are in AUSTRALIAN dollars, because this is where I live.

11 grand for a bike ? The worlds gone loopy ! For that much i'd want it to do the pedalling for me.
I remember the good old days when you could have the same bike as the pros for ooh 1/20th of that price - probably less.0 -

And a race prepped Porsche 911 GT3-RS is how much compared to a base model Ford Focus?
The Ford would be "good enough" for 98% of us, and would actually be more useful more of the time - however if you want to win Le Mans, good luck in the Focus!
11,000 Good British Pounds is a lot of money for a push bike, but you are comparing a pure race machine against a estimated "perceived" value as to what a bicycle should cost!
Can I afford one?.... no!
Would I be able to stress its limits?... no!
Would I be able to tell the difference?.... possibly!
Do I think it is fantastic?.... absolutely!
What is 11K this year trickles down to the affordable level over time, so in 3-5 years BSO's will have electronic shifting, available from ASDA (complete with incorrectly fitted forks) for GBP50!

If you want every component featured on the sky Team bikes then you can get them via pinarello via an agent but your looking at £12,5000

Had a go on the Dogma, not a huge ride, but a spin.
The Cento Uno is more comfy - but the Lampre ones in the 2010 TDF are not the same, as they have a smaller head tube for a more race fit....
The Cento will some come with this frame option.
A normal Cento is just amazing in terms of speed, acceleration, and absence of any fatigue. Hugely recommended.0 -
The Cento Uno is a great bike as you know Scrumple, haven't been on a Dogma, but the Cento Uno would do me fine ...0

It was only a few years back that custom steel was the bike to have. Boardman rode a Dolan with a respray and then it would be top of the range kit. Pricey but not ott. Some of the top bikes around owe a fair bit to marketing rather than their technical advantages. That said - the latest DA set is very very clever.0

It is not a car though its a bike there is far more involved in building a race car than a bike. Using that justification you could say that an Olympic athletes trainers are worth paying £2000 for just because they are capable of winning races despite the fact that they are made in the same sweat shops as those sold in your local JD sports. I have a BMC racemaster that weighs 7.2kg with Dura-ace groupset that cost £2500 how would spending another £8000 make it faster? Even if I spent £1000 on wheels that still leaves 7 grand. At the end of the day you are paying for exclusivity and the mental edge in thinking you have the best equipment. I doubt very much if you stuck Contador on an Ultegra equpiped bike he would start dropping off the back of the peleton.0 -

loopy. yes but for a whole host of other reasons.
The reference to "Ride" magazine and 34° (33°55' actually) gave it away.... (Sydney?)
It's useful to understand that given the demographics and logistics of a country 30 times the size of England with 1/3 the population and 15,000Km's away. The price of cycling is outrageously out of kilter with the rest of the world.
20K, does sound steep tho' sounds like someone's talking the p*ss. Generally the top line bikes are at the 15K spot. A simple currency conversion from AUD to EUR/GBP isn't accurate. But 15K would equate closer to an £8,000 in the UK.
PS Anybody that's out grown C+ (pretty much anyone whose not a noobie) and wants a top quality read owes it to themselves to consider Ride. It's damn expensive but IMO worth it.0
