hmm hey folks,
got a bit of a problem, can cycle the bike fine (orange 5 se) but when it comes to turning the pedals hit the floor...now i had my rear shock set up for me and all was good, it doesnt appear to have lost any presssure....whats happening here?
if it is indeed loosing pressure - why would that be? its a fox float rp23 for anyone wondering
another thing with the shock is that i dont really notice the pro pedal function at all makes no real difference if its on or off, or on settings 1 2 or 3.
possibly needing a service/seal change?

Is this when the floor is flat? What is your current sag measurement?0

flat as you like.
just sat on it and yea think its lost pressure bout 60% sag - wayyyyy to much.0 -
Pump it back up and get your desired sag, then see if it goes down again. Try tightening the valve too.
Basic air can servicing can be done at home.0 -

yar.... you would assume correct.
but on climbs sometimes not feasable, then they hit. they are very low to the floor.
maybe cos im a fat chunt.....16st.?
put 280 psi into shock lastnight and sag about 20%...still catch floor on certain parts.
like when going up a climb and theres a wee rut on one side...(other bikes are not catching) only me on mine...0 -

If you are running correct sag at both ends then nothing should be amiss.
However measure the static bottom bracket height (floor to centre of axle). What is it? This bike is not known for having a low bottom bracket.
If the sus is compressig a lot when heaving on the pedals, use more propedal.0 -
propedal set to 3.....i personally dont feel any difference from it being turned off or on.

for an XC bike, 10% sag is probably more acceptable, whack some more air in there. There should be some tables on the net as to what PSI to use for what weight rider, though of course it is personal preference, but you might benefit from it being harder. 20% sag is a lot on an XC bike.0

20% is about right for an XC bike, 10% and you will most probably not use all the available travel.
Rider weight & sag tables are pretty much useless, they do not take into account the suspension design nor the frame angles, both of which can affect the suspension and the way it works.
Set the sag so that you get full travel once or twice a ride.
I have clanged the odd pedal on my Orange 5 when I first got it, you have to adapt your riding technique to suit the bike, provided nothing is wrong with the shock or it's settings0 -

Do you have the right length shock in (190mm eye to eye)? What length are the crank arms?0

standard 5 shock so id assume its correct - (its the rp23 and has and orange 5 sticker on it)
though it only measures 175mm from bolt to bolt.
crank arm lengths are 190mm from bottom to centre bolt.0 -
It should measure 190mm. Though if it was low on air it might be sagging under its own weight, but you said it was at 280 psi.
This could be yur problem.0 -

You can get different lengths, but 175mm is uncommon.
When infalted it should be 190mm.
EIther the wrong shock, or something is broke. There should be over 51 mm of external shaft visible.0 -
compared to this 5... I can't see any differences or why it would be sagging!
the shock and swingarm look in the same orientation to the frame in both pics!0 -
there is 40mm shaft visible. (im not including the tapered bolt part though)0

Assuming that the stickers on the orange 5 are always in the same place, the swingarm on your 5 is much lower!0 -
Far too little. Should be much more when inflated.
There is your problem, your shock is knackered. Probably air escaping into the negative spring area.

thats because its prob a different frame size - owt to do with how low the frame sits - if that were the case mines would sit higher going by the pictures alone0 -

no i measured the actual clearance from the floor to the underside of the frame where the BB sits0 -
can you remesure to the center of the bolt.
and then measure from the floor to the center of your rear axle.
