Last years colourways aren't too bad (Nap's S2 included) but I don't like them as much as the CSC era and the 2010 schemes look a bit naff (to me) across the range.0 -
Nice looking bike......I'm sure its a joy to ride......perhaps not in the snow!0

Don't they come in like metallic orange and black? That'd be a nice colour scheme.0

Beautiful, I wish I could get a bike like that 8|0

About time...

Its a cracker!Rock 'n' Roule0

Yep it looks Schweet.
How much did each individual brake caliper weigh?0 -

I have the same brakes, front=101g, rear= 99g.
Minus the NapD factor: Front= 89g, rear= 87g :shock:Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
That looks sweet as mate... I am hoping to get some Sram Red for the 5.2 build. My wife is near ending my life though so have to sell some more 'old' stuff.
I was going to get 7900 but I will be getting some of those PX CNC brakes and have read they do not work too well. Plus I like the look and weights of Red.
Bet you can not wait to take her out for a nice long ride!0 -

Funnily enough I swapped the Sram Red brakes to the Winter Bike.
The braking performance of the Planet X brakes is on a par with my Ultegras that were on the Litespeed before.
I'm very impressed with them!
So yes, they do work well. Pad choice is very important though...0 -
KCNC make a nice pair of very light calipers here have a look.

I had a look before I bought the planet x ones...
IMO the KCNC logo and the release mechanism looks utter naff...
The only others I'd have considered if they weren't 5 times the price are these but function won't be any better -

using that logic, surely you should have kept the Red calipers on the bike.....?
Why do people question my choices? Softlad, we are all well aware of your views on light weight kit, it's my bike, my logic. I'll put on it what I like and to be blunt, I like, a lot.
I bought the Planet X ones because they were light and look good, function is pretty good too, as good as Ultegra which has never let me down.0 -

are you talking about the 7900's not working too well or the PX C.N.C calipers?
NapD very nice bike you have there. Health to enjoy.
Sorry, I was meaning the 7900 apparently do not work well with that brakeset due to the different pull ratios. So I am hoping to get red shifters which should work well with this brakes as Nap has confirmed his work well.0 -
Oh. I will be putting Salmons on the brakeset.0
-

Good choice. Pads make as big a difference to braking as the calipers IMO.0 -
Yeah i tend to agree with you their Big D on the old unsightly looking bit on the caliper of the KCNC although i bet they work really well ive had many bits from KCNC on the old MTBS and form and function have always impressed me.
Anyway those you got look well machined out so all is good their.
My new wheels from derek should be here pretty soon for the road bike build im looking forward to this one0 -
Yea.. I was always dissapointed with braking performance and feel but found these pads sorted it out. For the small outlay they make an big difference.
Any other changes planned for your build?!0 -

None.
Perfect for me!
Only thing that will change is the tyres when these wear out. Will likely get Vittoria Paves or Corsas.0 -
Cool... its knowing when and where to stop!
Do you always ride those wheels even in windy conditions? What sort of weight do the wheels come in at?0 -

This is my racing bike, so the wheels won't be being used all the time anyway, my winter/training bike has normal wheels...
Front - 582g
Rear - 808g
Total - 1390g
Pretty light for deep rims...0 -

Of course you can Nap - free country 'n all that. I'm only questioning you because by posting your bikes and specs here you have given me the opportunity to do so.
But like I said, it's not actually your choices I'm questioning - what I'm struggling with is the logic you are using to justify them.
Anyway - as you say - it's your money...0 -

My logic - Lighter weight. Look better. Work well enough.0 -
Nice build NapD. Particulary like the brakes as I am interested in a set as part of my upgrade project on the Orbea. Do you notice much difference in feel or power in comparison to a dual pivot set up and do you have any problems centering them?Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Ta!
No.

Nice.. I thought they would be heavier than that but I guess that is where the ££££ comes in. You should be proud mate0

Nap, how do you get on with the Gore cables, say compared to normal cables?0
-
Marin Maniac wrote:Nap, how do you get on with the Gore cables, say compared to normal cables?
Very well ta, the odd disagreement, usually when I'm drunk, but no, fine.
Tbh, the gore cables are standard with SRAM red so I've not used this setup with anything else so can't compare.
That said I have fully sealed Gore cables on my Litespeed winter bike. They do the job very well and are fit and forget, so I suppose I really rate them!0 -
While you're being grilled about brakes may I ask a question?
I also have the planet x brakes (although the forged ones) ready for my bike build and am looking into getting the kool-stop salmons pads too...Am I right in assuming the pad carriers that come with the brakes take shimano pattern pads?
Thanks0
