That's an Ultegra Octalink chainset on your bike. You don't ride with SPDs are cleats?
And the crank arm isn't lined up correctly according to OCP rules.
As far as Octalink goes, it works far better than the leaden cranks on my old hybrid and I haven't ridden anything with a newer road crankset - ignorance is bliss, and cheaper! If I stay five years behind the technology curve I get the same progression as anyone else, but at a much lower cost. In this spirit I look forward to Ultegra 6600 in a year or two
Are you running SPDs in the snow?
No don't do any running in the snow. Will start again when the temp is around 5C+ and will probably be wearing my Nikes.
Sensible your take on the technology curve. I've just stopped using cranks with cotter pins and am currently bowled over with the ease of square taper cranks on UN54 sealed cartridge bottom brackets. Newer technology chainsets might as well be from another planet. I guess in a few years it will become affordable, if it lasts that long, before it is changed for something new.
You don't want to breach any OCP rules. Pfft.........Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.

Looking at something from Kryptonite but that might change depending on the opinions voiced here.

I could have forked out a lot for Kryptonite, which supposedly have the image of being the best for some reason.
Anyone remember the BIC pens ??
Anyway, I bought some much cheaper Abus locks - they seem well made, so won't rust or fall apart on you and to be honest, that's all you're looking for in a bike lock.
Oh, you want it to actually stop your bike being pinched? Those types of locks (the type that work?!) don't actually exist.
I like your common sense expensive isn't always the best .... which it comes to VFM ..
And those kryptonite lock the weakest section was the joint where the metal is thinnest ...
I remember that style of lock way back in the early days and even then tea leafs could snap thrugh them faster than you could blink
Best form of defence is attack ... some might not agree with the following .. for those that leave bikes in sheds ...
Get a plug with a lengthy cable attached ... once you've measured the distance from your house to the shed ..drill a small hole through the base of the shed floor feed the cable through then what you do is cut of the off covering exposing the wire .. which you then wrap it round section of your frame ..
Then lock the shed door and switch the plug on ..0 -
Sorry to hijack this, but I'm after some lock advice. Now that I've moved there is no longer provision for keeping my stable inside my flat. However my building has a secure carpark that is covered bt CCTV and can only be accessed by residents with our electronic fob thingys. The garage has sheffield stands and I'm planning on storing 3 bikes down there (2 SS roadies and an Ultegra equipped Focus). So I'm in the market for cheap but effective D-locks, cheap as I'm going to have to buy 3 of them! Any ideas? Thinking about the Abus Varedo but even that is nearly £40!

A seriously useful lock link for those of us leaving bikes around city centres as all these locks are super secure.
At Jash - Take a look at the GRP Superdeals U-Lock [18mm] which is the first lock in the list. It gets discussed around page 5 or 6 of the thread but the bottom line is that it is stupidly hefty and a non branded version of a more expensive lock. Should suit your needs 100% especially considering the pricehttp://www.ledomestiquetours.co.uk

According to the thread I think only Wilson Cycles sells that version. Might be worth giving them a call as I am sure they will post it.http://www.ledomestiquetours.co.uk

If they are to be stationary locks then go for heftier
I've got the NY kryptonite and it weighs a fecking ton. But does give the impression at least of being rather hard and good.Le Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

Ha tell me about it!
I have just bought one of the Motrax locks as £15 with free postage is peanuts and bearing in mind its 19mm shackle, its probably worth that in scrap metal value alonehttp://www.ledomestiquetours.co.uk

redvee wrote:Got my eye on an ABUS City Chain X-Plus on a certain auction site for use at work
The seller pulled the auction as I was the only bidder. Obviously my initial bid took out the BIN option and the 99p bid wasn't enough for the seller, why didn't they put a reserve on it then? Had till sunday to run so likely that other bids would have come in for the lock. It's now been relisted, starting at £66.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Hi!
Any opinions on lighter locks? I see the Abus Granit Futura has gotten a not so good review here on BR.
"It resisted 30 seconds of bolt cropping, but under twisting forces it lasted only a further nine seconds – a surprise as Abus locks are usually excellent in this respect. "
So what about the Granit Strato 61? It's almost as light but is it as weak?
I have an MTB and was looking for a couple-of-minutes-while-I go-into-a-small-shop security lock.0
