Can anybody help me please.I keep getting punctures on my Elite Chrono Turbo trainer.
So far i have tried new trainer tyre and tube but i still get a puncture nearly every week.
It occurs in the same area every time but i cannot find anything in the tyre. Also it,s the main contact point with the roller which is plastic coated. HELP ! :(

Trapped tube when you put it on?

Highly likely, especially if you use tyre levers to put the tyre on...

What side of the tube is it happening? It could easily be the rim tape slipping

  • It is happening dead centre on the tyre contact point. Also it usually it lasts for 2 to 4 turbo sessions of 20 miles or so

One thing to check is that the tyre is not pumped up too much. No more than 80PSI.

Too much air makes the tyre push against the roller too much. Heat generated from training causes the tube to explode. I've had it happen myself.

At one point I was getting a flat every day! But that was due to a split inside the turbo tyre that would pinch the tube. Couldn't feel it at first but sussed it after a while.

I had a spate of trainer punctures last summer. I tried both the Conti and Vittoria trainer tyres and both were giving me a puncture every couple of weeks or so. I went over to just a standard worn-out road tyre (Michelin Krylion) and the problem went away completely.

The trouble seemed to be related to friction between the tyre and tube - the trainer tyres I used were both very rough internally and I suspect they were chafing the tube. I tried a repaired inner tube once with the trainer tyres and the patch split completely across where it touched the tyre at the roller contact point. The Krylion is very smooth internally so I don't think it abrades the tube.

This happened to me too, and after trying 2 different trainer tyres and different methods on putting them on. I ended up using an old Vittoria and the problem disappeared. I now keep my old tires for use on the turbo.

I'm using an old tyre designed for the track now. No problems whatsoever. My previous orange turbo tyre is the one that was giving me flats every day.

Try Continental Gatorskins. I've used them on the turbo for the last few winters and have never had a puncture, even though I ride them at 120 psi. The only problem I seem to have with tyres on the turbo is that the rubber can go a bit shiny after a while but it doesn't seem to affect the grip once I get back out on the road.

    Good luck
