How important are calf muscles?

I have naturally very skinny lower legs and I'm wondering if this is limiting my cycling speed in any way? I weigh 70 kg and am 5' 10" so not heavily built.

Read this for some thoughts (a comparison of my power profile before and after a lower leg amputation):

In summary:
For aerobic power, not so much.
For sprint power, quite a lot.0 -
Have a look at Alex's latest blog http://alex-cycle.blogspot.com/
This might give you some idea and I'm sure Alex will expand on this if you want.0 -
I can't provide any figures, but can somewhat back up what Alex says. Also a lower leg amputee - and my other calf is damaged to the point of it being useless. Therefore all power comes from the thighs. Sprinting power for me is hopeless, but am OK on longer distances.0

this may be of use or not. i dont know if youve read this article but it says moving cleats back under your arch can raise your performance. i would say less leverage on your calfs also.
