Cav - where did it all go wrong?

I'm half way through the Cav autobiography. Usual fare, but what's intriguing me is why/how his relationship with Melissa fell apart and he ended up with Miss Italy.
They were all set for marriage in October this year. Anyone know what happened?

There just wasn't room in the relationship for Melissa, Cav was already wedded to his ego
PS: we love you Cav, you're clearly a supremely talented sprinter and it's exciting to watch you. Watching the bodies drop by the roadside in the De Panne 3 day was nailbiting stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ-FU-9Z-fo0 -

You're probably right. Reading between the lines, he's spending more time away, she'd already sacrificed a lot (even quitting a job/career she enjoyed when he asked her to).
Even Cav admits it - top sportsmen are selfish. Could you live with someone like that? No doubt there will be no room for Miss Italy pretty soon either.
PLUS I've skipped to the acknowledgments at the back - he's still pouring his heart out to Melissa, that was after March cos the Epilogue is about his MSR winExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

Not being funny but who cares?
It's up to him whom he dates. He could club baby seals to death, its really nothing to do with me or anyone else. The only thing about cav I am interested in is his cycling, no problems there! It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0 -

Well if you don't care why bother posting?
It is up to him who he dates. However, it's the only thing I've found interesting in his book so far. He's constantly writing about how much he loves her, the next thing he's with a new model.
Him winning sprints so easily has now got boring I want to know about his personal life, and whether we have a new 'Cippo' on our handsExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

Melissa got the hump when he started hanging out with the Italian Stallion himself, Snr Cippolini ..
Either that or the f3ckin white suit was the last straw0 -
Hmm, the best sprinter in the world, a millionaire at 24, and going out with a beauty queen. Where did it all go wrong indeed.0

I guess the sooner the season starts the better eh? Off season sure is boring! It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0 -
There's gonna be an update to the paperback of his book that's out in June, so I guess if he want's to tell the world what happened, we will know then. For the time being, just let the guy date whoever he wants, there is no point in speculating in what happened. None of us will be right anyway
Although someone said in another thread: 'Melissa dumped him cos he made her wear a Columbia jersey and called her George at inappropriate moments' .. I'm sticking to that theory!0 -

Very true. I like the lad - he's larger than life, and great entertainment. Seems a shame though cos she seemed like a great girl for him - but things don't work out sometimes.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

She sure did seem like a great girl for him, but whatever happened is really non of our business. He's a great cyclist, and I hope he'll do at least as well in 2010 as he did in 2009!0 -
simple...
Cav returned to his alter-ego

Just cos he wrote a book and at that time she was the one for him, does not mean we have the right to know everything that goes on in his personal life. Whatever happened it's between the two of them, not the rest of the world. Give the guy a break...0 -

+1 well said PB.
I see the british disease of finding something to beat our sports "stars" with is alive and well around here. I would have thought that it was traditional to at least wait until he failed at his chosen sport before jumping on the bandwagon, however as he shows no sign of slowing down it's what else can we criticise? He's arrogant. He's cocky. His finish line celebrations are disrespectfull. Wow. What a complete bastard!
Burn him! His relationship ended! We don't know what happened but hey it must his fault as he wins lots of races! The cad. It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0 -
