Halfords have stopped doing BC for everything, has to be cycle specific. Up to each store but, I cannot see them quibbling if you were to say, quite rightly, it;s for your bike cam.

Had a chat with a guy in-store today.
He Pulled out the voucher book they scan ( printed first Dec 2017), and clearly shows BC membership still at "10 % off everything."
However, it's right next to the cycling UK one that states "10% of cycling stuff only'".

Make sure the right one is being scanned.
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

This is serious vfm - REALLY top quality softshell.

£160, down to £112 which is when I bought it, and now down to £96 - chuck in some cashback through your work scheme if you have it, or general cashback, and your looking at a serious deal on a top line garment.

  • Chain Reaction have an XMAS10 promo code for 10% off.

Typical, I ordered two bits totalling ~£30 last night and the more expensive bit (Endura FS260 winter socks) were only added because the Xmas gift Ritchey foam grips were ~50p short of the £9 basket free delivery!

40% off a load of stuff at Pactimo including the brilliant Summit Raptor bibs. The tights and 3/4 lengths are also excellent.

I bought one from Sigma 2 months ago for £120 in the sale.

Great light for either bars or helmet.

Merlin Cycles are doing the Castelli Potenza jersey/jacket for £99 (think rrp is close to £200). Seem to be all sizes, in surf blue or anthracite. Absolute bargain for a great piece of kit.

Is this sized the same as the gabba, I read somewhere it was a bit of a looser fit? ie maybe a size down if I were to get one?

I've got it in medium (and am medium in all other castelli jerseys and jackets). I'd agree it sizes up a little bigger than other Castelli items, the arms are certainly longer than my long sleeve Gabba, tge body is touch longer too. Im tempted to get another Potenza in small, as the Polatec Powerstretch material is, as the name suggests, uber stretchy. The medium certainly doesn't look too big on me though.

As a garment it's really nothing like a Gabba though. It's basically a cycling fleece but with a much closer cycling cut and a "hard face" fabric with a DWR finish. The benefits are it's warm, but incredibly breathable. Wore mine today with a short sleeve windstopper base layer, and some armwarmers underneath and was toasty the whole 40 miles. Was on the single speed so possibly working a little harder up the climbs but still didnt get damp with sweat. Not bad with temps hovering between 2-4 degrees :) ...i have to say it's one of my favourites.

Thanks for the info think I'll just go for my regular sizde then. I saw they had it as a 10 - 17 degree garment, I'd be a puddle on the floor if I wore that at 17 degrees, not that it ever reaches such heights in glasgow ...

Expensive overpriced cookies that probably taste bad.

Lidl do 3 large cookies for a £1.
  • I'm after some Shimano 105 pedals. They are 65.98 at Wiggle at the mo. Should I be looking to get them cheaper than that?

  • Thanks - I'd seen those but they are listed as OE - so original equipment - may come without packaging etc. Not sure it's worth the risk? I'm never bought anything OE before.

"These pedals are supplied with SM-SH11 cleats. Please note that these pedals are sourced from original equipment (OE) and may or may not be supplied with aftermarket packaging."

I think they are the standard cleats they are supplied with tho'.

If you’re willing to pay an extra fiver for a box that will be thrown in the bin, go for the Wiggle pedals.

No risk. As Ryan said, you just don't pay a fiver for the extra packaging.

  • I got a pair of oe pedals from Evans cycles. Click and collect at local store. Got to the store and walked off with shimano packaged pedals. The store manager said the oe ones were just on plain brown card box M he didn't have one in so gave the non oe pedals instead. Not really costing them much more so no big deal for him.

They'll be in a box of some sort with all the bits you'd get in branded boxes too. Daft really.

Exposure Strada at 40% off at Evans. Probably not the latest Mk, but still could be good as it's a proper dippable road light with a wired remote.
  • Did anyone jump at the chance to buy a pair Continental GP4000 SIIs with free tubes (or £2 extra for Conti Race 28s) for ~£56 from Merlin over the weekend?

I was tempted (and still am, the offer still shows for me), but never tried any current generation "top end" tyre from any brand, so I've no idea how much benefit I would get over my pair of 25mm and 28mm Grand Sport Race.

Although the Ultra Sport 2 folded price looks great at <£24 for a pair and they roll well, looks a great bang for the buck bargain https://www.merlincycles.com/continenta ... 58350.html

  • Tyres vary quite a lot. If you've not tried a pair, it's often difficult to rationalise how good a more expensive pair are. The GP4000iiS are very very good indeed. They may actually be the best all rounder there is. Not as fast as some, not as durable as others, but a fantastic do all tyre. Very quick too. You can also quite legitimately use them all year round.

A friend bought his shoes instore and ordered OE pedals to be shipped to store as they were out of stock at the time, when he went to collect them they were retail stock in a box.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
