I've heard good things about the Bontrager Racelite hardcases, which for the price are hard to beat:

Personally I've been using gatorskin hardshells, but they're pretty pricey. I prefer to have a folder which has put me off the bontragers thus far.0 -

The Bontragers are horrible TBH. Very slow.

I'd advise against those, apart from the weight and slow feel they're very sketchy on wet roads. Had a couple of hair raising experiences on them going round corners that I would normally take at a faster pace. The only good thing about them is they're pretty much bomb proof.0 -

Does depend on priorities. Both my bikes came with them as stock tyres and I never had any problems with slipping/sliding although admittedly, I'm not the fastest out there.
But, more importantly, I've gone 10,000 miles on them without having a visit from the p* fairy (as I wish I had a wooden keyboard to type that!)0 -
Have got Bontrager Racelite hardcase tyres on all 3 of my 700c bikes (23,25 & 28mm). Never had any problem with them in the wet, and I live in Glasgow. Where it rains a lot. And most of the surfaces are littered with smashed Buckfast bottles, so decent puncture protection is a a must.0

A colleague used them for a month and reckoned he was about 1mph slower on average. I'd concur with that (though they only lasted 2 weeks on my bike). What's worse though is, in that 2 weeks I got 2 punctures (that's about what I've come to expect PER YEAR on the Rubino Pros.
Anyhow, if you're riding say 6 hours a week - you'll be 6 miles slower on the Bontragers. I can probably fix 2 punctures in the time it takes to cycle 6 miles (18 mph : 6 miles = 20 mins : 10 mins per flat).

Did your colleague run them at 40psi?? They don't roll the best, and make the ride feel a bit wooden, but I can't imagine them (or any road tyre) causing a 1mph reduction in average speed! Good value tyres if puncture protection and hard wearing are at the top of your list IMO. Having said that I won't be buying them again!meanredspider wrote:
