the two questions carry equal weight
why are we there - why are they here.
Who are "they" and what are "they" doing?
who are "we" and what are "we" doing?
im english (we) and the post i quoted refered to "them" as muslims.
there is always two sides in a war. when two sides go to war one is all that you can score-democracy hopefully. not some mythical sinister agenda. or even terrorism.
I've read that 10 times and I still don't know what you're getting at, particularly the bit about "them" (which we've now established as being Muslims) being free to come here and do as they wish. That's the point of fighting for democracy isn't it? So people can live in a free country and do as they wish, within the law?0 -

yes! we are making them "free" by shooting and bombing them (100,000 dead) they must be delighted with their new found freedom

I don't agree with the wars, I think that Western foreign policy creates enemies - please don't think that the current problems date back to 2001, read a book on, say, Iran and Britain during the 1950s to see what I mean.
However, I wish a safe return to those stuck out abroad, as well as to anyone else away from their families because of their jobs, especially those with unpleasant and/or dangerous jobs..0 -

Yes.
That is the case today, Im not sure it was in the begining but i believe it is now. Iraq was different, that was clearly wrong and im not sure Afghanistan was right in the beginnig but now, yes i believe its imperative to "win" in Afghanistan and why the resistance is high and prolongued.
It has become a prinicipal thing i think.
I know for a fact that a lot of effort is put in locally to stop that happening too. but this is for another thread, this one was about acknowldging the men and women doing the difficult job that they do out there. I wish them and their families a happy new year.0 -
The reason that people can post almost any view on here, be of any creed, colour, religion or political slant is because we live in a tolerant and benevolent society. We have democracy, freedoms and free healthcare. We have free education and social welfare. It may not be perfect and to be honest seems pretty flawed at the moment and no small amount of this is down to the work the poor squaddie is out in the field doing his job. A little thanks is required I think and apply some perspective. The " They signed up for it, they deserve it", attitude is a bit childish and petty imho. just alittle silent thanks and some respect for the troops of this country, not the politics or politicians.0
