...and spare a thought for those killed on the roads in the UK this year. They outnumber those British soldiers killed in Afghanistan but get no media coverage.

All are tragic deaths, all should not be forgotten. :(

  • +1 for the troops.

But also for all those others forgotten by the media. At the moment there's an elderly couple next door to me who haven't been out for over 7 days due to the iced paths and roads.

Seriously, what's your point? I'm sure you're not trying to draw parallels with Afghanistan and our roads, or maybe you are? Perhaps you think it's safer in Afghanistan or something?

In any case, I know what it's like to serve away during Christmas time, thank heavens I wasn't in a war zone but it's bad enough being away somewhere relatively safe.

Unless they're in uniform and earning a pittance with virtually no guarantee of a job that pays well when they leave, I'd rather not thanks.

Sorry, I don't think your comments are 'in tune' with this post! :!: :!:
  • please excuse my ignorance but why should i spare a thought for them?

That's what I was wondering. It sounds really shallow but it's their job and they joined voluntarily. I think our thoughts should be with the families of people serving abroad rather then those actually abroad because they're the one's who had very little say in whether their offspring joined the armed forces. Respect to those in the army though!

Because as you tuck into your turkey or vegloaf or whaatever, theyre working to ensure youre not overun by muslim terrorists. Thats why.

Instead of pathetic comments a quiet thank you or thankgoodness its not me would be more appropriate thoughts. This goes for the bell ends whos view is well they signed up.

it used to be reds under the bed now its muslims

i would have thought our occupation of mulim countries is acting as an excellent recruiting campaign for muslim terrorism?

Hmm. Is not the freedom of speech and to able to write what we think, a wonderful privilege.Within moral grounds of course.

indeed- but those freedoms are under constant attack with the 'war on terrorism' being used as the excuse to attack those freedoms

    paradoxical isnt it?

i dont understand your thinking which reads as we cant go to muslim countries to try and bring about some peace but they are free to come here as they wish and are doing. why are we the baddies all the time? why do the rules only apply to britain.

the two questions carry equal weight

why are we there - why are they here.

we are not occupying the place, we are trying to give it back so they can run it democratically.

    Sparing a thought right now.

Really wanting to make those detractors with the audacity to post negative thoughts 'walk' down the Pharmacy Rd.

Laughing at why the same idiots have no idea why that is a bad thing....

im english (we) and the post i quoted refered to "them" as muslims.
there is always two sides in a war. when two sides go to war one is all that you can score-democracy hopefully. not some mythical sinister agenda. or even terrorism.
