I thought this had been "sorted" on newer pro2 hubs though?

That was sort of my point...

But not only - I have seen some alloy carriers mark them too. Not as bad, but it still can happen.

True. I'm amazed that they haven't sorted the cracking thing yet. I wonder if they shot-peen them before anodising?

with all the stress risers on the body compared to the Bulbs I dont think so.
allso as the ratchet ring screws into the body I reckon there is some missing FMEA out there.

I know there was a bad batch - I wonder if it was one of those? I can't remember the reason they gave.

The split seems to start from a spoke eyelet which might have caused it to propagate into the body.

and whats that im running an xt block
  • nik young
    Yep xt should be fine.

I'm fully gone off hope hubs now (because of the state of the freehub, not the crack). That freehub is pretty bad considering it had the correct cassette on.
Did the cassette move about much?
  • to be honest ive never checked, only had the bearings done so outher than that the hubs been great.but i wouldnt run a single speed on it i would just buy the steel one instead(im going single speed on my outher bike)
  • I have herd that to ensure no wear on the pro2s, you have to regularly take the cassette fully off (after evey ride?).

But with me being a heffer I think i'll pass.
  • fook that i couldn't be arsed i will just wait until the cassette spins on the body then buy a new 1 lol :D

  • Its a shame hope don't sell the pr02 as a steel freehub at the point of sale. I'ts bloody stupid.

Like someone said though, its all about getting people to pay a bit more.

Same thing happened to mine earlier this year, after around only 300 miles of use. Sent to Hope, they fixed under warranty, but since i have had problems with all the hope products i have owned, i have lost faith in them, even though they do have great customer care, for me its not good enough.
