In need of some new tunes, love getting suggestions.

For me faves of the year:

Florence and the machine, Lungs. Think PJ Harvey mixed with Beth Orton

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, It's Blitz. Breathtaking.

So what have you been loving this year (maybe even whilst riding!)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Music while riding (a bike) dulls your perception.

You did mean bike, didn't you?

    It's all coming back!

Madness - Liberty of Norton Folgate. Absolute brilliant.

Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Disappointed on first listen after their first 2 albums but it grew on me.

Got the Them Crooked Vultures album on its way from Play, so can't say about that, but...
Absolute favourite: Rammstein's 'Liebe Ist Für Alle Da'.
    Honourable mentions:
Alice In Chains 'Black Turns Into Blue"
    Pearl Jam 'Backspacer'
And reissues of the year, no question for me, Kraftwerk....
Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland
Viner Magnifica '08 ; Condor Squadra

  • I find it rather sad to say but I don't think I've listened to a whole album this year, for that matter I can't quite remember the last time I did :-(

I used to be *really* into music but I just seem to have lost interest recently, maybe it's my age.

I am seriously considering buying my first ever single download though, I wonder if anyone can guess what it might be

Oh yes! Them Crooked Vultures are just awesome.

I've also just started getting into Future of the Left. They're kind of like And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead mixed with The Pixies. 'Travels with Myself and Another' is pretty good and so is 'Curses' (which is probably the better album) but it's 2007 so probably doesn't count.

    MGMT
    The Doves
    FCN 2-4.

    Surprised no-one mentioned The XX.

Easily best album of the year.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

I really like the XX too. My fav album of the year is either Wild Beasts Two Dancers or Atlas Sound Logos. I listen to Atlas Sound more when I'm tired which is most of the time, but I think Wild Beasts is very fresh.
  • It would immeasurably help us old codger types if those posting in this thread could identify what term is the artist and what term is the title of the LP. Are all these works available in stereo? Proper stereo? Not that rubbish where the voices come from one side and the musical instruments from the other.

    Next up:

"Do they call that singing these days?"
"Is that person dancing or is he in some sort of pain?"
    and my personal favourite:
"Is that a man or a woman?":mrgreen::mrgreen:

I bet you've got Andy Williams on at the moment. It's probably on repeat. :P

Just that repeating hissing with a thump when the record has finished but no one has turned it off.

Well the xx is self titled...

It's just bare, dubby influenced, pop I guess.
Think interpol meets portishead - but then with a more intimate feel.

What? At Christmastime? Not with the ickle baby jesus.

    Bing Crosby. White Christmas.

The music centre is quite space-age, so it will take the needle back to the beginning when it's finished and start it again. Isn't that clever?

  • Another vote for Florence and the Machine...

And Paloma Faith... I think she's great.
