KCNC untested? Perhaps you should expand your horizons a bit - i've seen literally hundreds of bikes using KCNC bars, stems, skewers, etc. I've even got a few bits on mine - seem very light, inexpensive, but most importantly, well made. IMO of course 8)

You've basically summed my post up in 5 words0 -
Gorgeous bike.
I lusted after a Stumpjumper for years when I first got into mountain biking and got an alloy one a few years ago which I still have, The new carbon one is stunning and 20lb is a good five pounds lighter than mine even with its commuting tyres!0 -
theese parts are light, reasonable priced and really works! made my xc bike fly the other week and thought that my kcnc bar had made it's last flight but it held up.
would be fun to hear now how the cassette worked out? it's a truly nice machine, been any problems with it?0 -
Can't wait to see what terryg1980 rides if he thinks the parts on this are rubbish. It must be the most awesome bike of Ev.Ar!
Actually, I agree with him, the bike is crap! Tell you what, as I'm a nice guy, I'll let you give it to me, that way you dont need to hang your head in shame any more.0 -
Lovely looking bike there. I've always been a fan of Stumpys - my first proper MTB was an 89 model Rockhopper, and it was 97 when I finally got a Stumpy. It was one of the early M2 alloy USA made frames and went like a rocket.
I was very tempted recently by an S-Works alloy frame in JE James, but I need the comfort of a softtail these days, so I went for an FSR in the end.0 -
Just a quick mail to say thanks again for all of your nice comments...
Just to answer some of the questions that have been asked above...
I really have no idea how much the project has cost and I think its best I don't add it all up or I will prob make me feel a bit ill.. all I know is, is that it was worth it.. the bike is fantastic to ride and it loves hills..!! The components I used were parts I have researched and feel that would work for me personally (apart from the KCNC cassette which I bought because it looked nice) :?
I really dont know if the red spokes on the Mavics are any different from the black ones and I don't know if they are supposed to do anything, I have not read anything about them but a friend of mine seems to think it maybe has something to do with when the wheels are built and what order the spokes have tension put on them..? cant say if he's right or wrong really, I have no idea..?
Ok.... now the KCNC cassette... I have now ridden this cassette pretty hard over the last couple of weeks. The shifting at low speed was a little clunky at 1st but only on the orange anodised cogs but even so it still never skipped or missed a beat... now some of the orange anodise has worn off it seems to be a lot smoother in those gears. All the other gears shift fast and smooth and quick and you wouldn't really tell the difference between Sram / Shimano / KCNC, its just the 4 orange cogs that seemingly need to bed in. You CANNOT crunch through the gears on this cassette, it really does not like changing under too much load..... it really is just a race cassette..... my early predictions for the cassette are that it is not going to last as long as a high end Shimano cassette and in all honesty, I only bought it because it was orange... Im sure everyone has something on their bike that they bought just because it looks trick.?

Just a quick apology to all the people I stirred up on my original post, Brenbass is now aware of who terryg is, just a little joke between mates, but did not expect such a stir!!!
Just to let you know this bike is awesome..... I have seen, touched and played with!!!
Excellent combination of components and none of my negative comments relate to my true feelings of this bike, it is an awesome bike!!! Gary.0 -
Damn I was just about to say I found you in my toolbox when I went to get a spanner terryg1980, but it seems I can now retract that statement
As for the Stumpy - awesome! 8)
I am sooooo looking forward to getting back on my M5 framed stumpy in a few months, will only be road though
Am running an XT cassette, did consider KCNC or even XTR, but couldn't warrant the cost over all the other bits I had changed within a few months of buying the bike - oops!
Am gutted that Spec stopped selling just the framesets, the year I bought mine, you could get the S-works for a grand, now they sell them with forks for much more. Although merlin are doing one at the mo for £699 : http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain- ... frame.html. Just cant warrant spending that kinda money on a new frame when I will only be using it for the road for a while.
Enjoy the bike, keep us updated with pics!0
