  • AAAAAHHH I see..... I will go sort that.... hanks for the heads up on that...!!
  • Blimey!

Never been a fan of Stumpys if I'm honest. Can't really say why, they've just never done much for me.

This one though is a thing of beauty.

That matte carbon finish is awesome, and the spec is like most peoples dream XC shopping basket (mine anyway).

Nicely done there, one of my favourite bikes of the year!

Other than tires, you got any more plans for it?

you can do the last pic for practice when you nned to put another pic on here.
and i agree with CWNT
  • Cheers for your nice comments guys and thanks Jay for helping me fix my pic prob.. all sorted..!!

Well no plans at the mo to change much, the winter tyres are always a bit heavier.. If I do well in the winter series this year / next, I think I may treat it to a set of ZTR Podium wheels before the British Mountan Bike Series in the summer..... cant really afford it now tho... the bike has broken me...

    Nice bike bud

Whats the cassette like shifting wise? As good as shimano /sram? I assume its pretty lightweight so do they wear well? Oh and where did you get it?

    Cheers

Scratch that...I've just found out how much they cost...i dont want one now

Can I ask a question though re weight saving... Sureky there comes a point whereby its just not worth it?

And do you cut you're toe nails really short?...just to save that little extra weight?
  • Hi mate, well I haven't had a chance to ride the bike this weekend as I have been on the road bike all week.. 1st impressions of the cassette were that its no where near as slick shifting as Shimano but I have been assured that it will bed in after a few miles.. I'll let you know after Sunday... going to do a long long ride and test it..!!

As for the weight and the cost of it, well thats just incredible.. expensive, yes but I was using an XT cassette and it was worn and needed replacing. I was going to fit XTR anyway and I managed to get this one for the same price as and XTR as I bought a job lot of KCNC all together. To be honest... I know the XTR would have been the better choice but this one looks trick and I just have to see if its any good......??!!

The claimed weight was 161g for the KCNC. I weighed it at 150.2g compared to my XT cassette which was bang on 300g. Its noticeably lighter..!!

I don't cut my toenails to save weight but its a thought..

I'd be interested to see how long that cassette lasts - being alu, i assume it'll wear fairly quick? 300g seems quite heavy for an XT - i thought they were supposed to be around the 255g mark. My XTR (11-32) i bought earlier in the month hit the scales at 221g. You're right though, that KCNC is lovely looking

Do you know how much the Spesh Phenom weighs? I'm in the market for a new saddle and have been looking into these but can't seem to find any "real" weights, only Spesh's claimed weights (which i know will be BS).
  • Yeh the XT was heavier than I thought... it was an 11/34 tho... I am interested to see how the KCNC wears.. Ill prob be moaning on here in a few weeks saying "I should have bought XTR"... We'll see..

Spesh claimed weights are not very good.. The Phenom SL is supposed to weigh 190g give or take 5%.. Mine weighs 209g. I had a standard Phenom as well and that 1 weighed 269g. There are alot lighter seats out there but I really get on well with the Phenom shape.. its quite a stiff seat, not to everyones taste...
  • Hello, I thought I would take a look at your pics, not really a Specialized fan but thought it might be special for someone listing it here, some nice bits, shame you picked on a Specialized frame!!! you could of spent more wisely on a few things, frame, too many stumpjumpers around, KCNC, not really proven, very expensive and too light, cassette looks good but why oh why would you compromise performance over a few grams, I would rather have slick fast precise reliable shifting from XTR, at least you would not be crunching the wrong gears when you need it the most! too much to different, chain, cassette, chainset and shifters all different manufactures!!! KCNC finishing stuff, I would have gone with someone with more of a reputation, again too light and not really tested! if you wanted to get the weight down why have such a heavy wheelset and tyres? and why are people still going for those pedals, you could save a lot of money and have XTR!! I do like the forks, good choice and probably still the best around, actually now I am thinking about the bike a bit more the only good thing on your bike in my opinion is the forks, I still like the bike though!! but would have spent my money more wisely, you could have got something really special for that money!!!!!!!!!!

What are the red spokes for by the way? I'm assuming they have a purpose..

Yeh, I don't like anything about it either! Terrible choices.

Seriously though, the frame looks great, and it's a great mix of parts. Nice to see one or two things out of the ordinary too.

 eurgh! You ride that thing? In public?

Seriously though, that's a lovely looking bike - i wish i had something like that. Unfortunately, my bike probably cost less than 1/2 the price of your forks.

Terryg1980 - nice first post. I'll personally make sure I PM you in future before i buy ANYTHING for my bike.
KCNC untested? Perhaps you should expand your horizons a bit - i've seen literally hundreds of bikes using KCNC bars, stems, skewers, etc. I've even got a few bits on mine - seem very light, inexpensive, but most importantly, well made. IMO of course 8)
