Which Shoes?

Following on from other use(less) buying advice threads I thought I'd add another.
I need some new shoes and I need to know what the general consensus is on size before buying.
Which size is best?

Don't be ridiculous! I wear the SPD SL version, except in summertime, when I opt for nailing the cleats straight on to the soles of my feet.0 -

I was well aware that 5 are the best but my budget won't stretch to them hence it's off the poll.0 -

It's also stiffer and will place less stress on the ankle joints.0 -
Can't believe only 30% voted for 11...0

Why? What makes 11 better? Are they more geared towards the Sportive rider?
I'm veering towards saving up for the 5s but then if I do that, I may as well wait a few more weeks and get some 4s next time cycle2work scheme comes around...0 -

Christ, I thought this was meant to be a forum of experts with staggering levels of knowledge...
11 is actually 1+1, so 2. So much lighter than 5. Plus 11 shoes put out an extra 8W on a properly calibrated SRM (not on Powertaps though).
So there.0 -
Why don't we ask Derek@ WheelsmithNorfolk, who nicked all the hills?

WTF?
Derek knows sweet FA about feet. Nothing. Nada. A mate of mine took his advice once and look what happened.
Derek needs to stick to wheels.0 -
Why don't you get some 5s, but then get some 11s for the winter. That way you don't spoil your 5s in the winter crap, plus you can fit mudguards on the 11s.
I suggest you trawl the internet for the cheapest 5s, then ask your LBS if they can match the price.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

I did but they recommended I try Derek. As a result of the pic above they are now no longer my LBS.
Idiots.
I tried ringing Derek's shoe site but all they did was keep asking me if I'd been involved in any kind of accident that wasn't my fault.

I was going to try these for handbuilts until I read the comment in the bottom left square

When I look at the picture of my mate it all becomes clear!!! Handbuilts are not they way to go because they give you foothand syndrome.
Although it looks like she could do with some of them!0 -

PLEASE say SIDI make these too :twisted:0 -
Nap D. I can call you that can't I? Only I feel like I've known you for years and that we have become internet brothers.
What you need to do is go to as many LBS's as you can and try every size for yourself. Then you have to choose the best size for you. You'll know what size is best for you when you put them on. I did straight away. The main thing is that you do whats best for you. Many on here will try and tell you what size is best for you, but only you will truely know once you have tried on the differing sizes. Shoe size is a very individual thing. Whats good for one person may be different for someone else.
For what its worth mine are a size 10 I suggest that you give them ago. As I've never had any trouble with them and I've been using size ten now for roughly 25 years.Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

I heard that Sidi outsource their lower end carbon soled shoes to Taiwan but still make the Ergo 2s in house using their own jigs.0
