The idea is, everyone buy 'Killing in the Name Of' between the 13th and the 20th, to stop X-Factor getting the xmas no.1.

You know this is a good idea!

Exactly.... Don't do what Simon Cowell wants, do what some other t1t wants...

This was a big fail last year, when the same t1t wanted everyone to buy a Rick Nasty single...

least rage is a decent song!
  • I'd rather x factor was no. 1 than those sixth form ranters. Terrible band. "Capitalism is like, bad and stuff, to find out how bad you'll have to buy my album, its out on sony!" Prats.
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Yep they should have completely stuck to their guns and not signed with any record labels and never become popular and spread their message

Well yeah, you kind of need money these days... At least they're singing about something interesting rather than whatever the tw@ts on sh1tfactor are on about. And you kind of need a record label to sell albums!

People seem to have missed the point about getting Rage to Christmas no.1. It's not about not following a trend it's about bringing quality music to the forefront rather than the tripe that comes out of all these sh1tty music programmes.
  • Don't even think Rage were quality music. And they had that tedious "no electronic instruments" thing...

As for them not being gigantic, rich as chuff hypocrites... well why not self release their records? Loads of bands with a genuine antiĉapitalist message manage it. Even if they didn't do that, there must be slightly less gigantic labels than Sony!

My point is that their message is rendered worthless by the fact they coin it in off angry teenagers and live in mansions. They're basically sting with rap metal. At least x factor is honest... you know the money isgoing to make simon cowell even richer and that the contestants are just fame hungry idiots!

  • It's about the music not whether they live in mansions or not. I think they write amazing and original metal songs with a bit of meaning which is more important to me then where they live. It's the music industry not politics.

Is being Number One the big thing it used to be nowadays ? Or am I just too old to care now ?

I've got to say Rage Against The Machine is a pretty good band - better than the crap X-factor is. People who watch X-factor have no respect.

    It's never going to work.
  • Wow.
    Strong views!

    Hi Goat,

The tedious no electronic instruments thing was to show that it's possible to get all sorts of sounds out of a guitar without needing samplers, or keyboards. At this time there was a lot of dance music about, and for those people that wanted a guitar band, but weren't keen on the "Hair Metal" scene of the 80s, RATM were just what they were looking for. This predates the popularity of grunge too...

I'm with Half Man Half Biscuit this year - It's Clichéd to be Cynical at Christmas.

They can generally be relied upon for words of wisdom on most things. I loved their Millenium album "Four Lads Who Shook The Wirral".

In fact sod it, lets have an orchestrated campaign to make "All I Want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit" number one!

  • Surely having killer riffs is prefereable to (insert bland cover here) ?

Alternatively - Adrian Edmonson and the Kaisers cover "Ever fallen in love????"

with Van Halen providing a solo the song deserves - a 12 minute one. :D
    What wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!
  • Sorry to ressurect this, I just read Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai on Twitter

"RATM= Sony/BMG, X Factor= Sony/BMG. Yeah, that's really sticking it to the man. Christ the kids are fupping stupid"

Not so sure that it's all about "sticking it to the man" though, apart from Cowell maybe. The RATM song was probably only chosen for its sweariness index.

beat me to it, but i think the point with this campaign is there are lots of people who don't like x-factor with diverse music tastes, who will band together to make a stand, these people are untouched by cowell's marketing machine,

anyway the music industry is controlled by a few conglomerates, you can find a link like the one mentioned with pretty much every well known song,
  • There's been quite a lot of controversy about this, so just thought I'd clear this up in case anyone's interested....

I HAVE JUST PHONED AMAZON ON THIS NUMBER: 0800 496 1081 AND CONFIRMED THAT THE 29P SALES DO COUNT TOWARDS THE CHARTS.

So if anyone wants to support the cause, it only costs 29p from Amazon, here...

Personally, I say BUY RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.

DO IT EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DO IT FOR REAL MUSIC, DO IT IN SUPPORT OF ALL THAT IS AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE, DO IT 'CAUSE IT'LL BE A LAUGH, IT'LL BE DIFFERENT, AND IT'LL BE MEMORABLE. DO IT TO PROVE THAT IT CAN BE DONE.

Come on, people, get involved :O)
  • DO IT TO PROVE THAT IT CAN BE DONE.
I think that sums up the 'campaign' perfectly!! :)

    Missing the point.

Christ Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai is fupping stupid.

But when has xmas number one ever had anything to do with real music?

At worst F Factor getting to no.1 is a minor irritation - I still never have to hear it...and I already own a copy of that Rage against The Machine track so why buy it again?
  • Look, we all have choice, X factor had 18 million people choosing to watch ... let folks choose what to do / who to buy.

If successful this campaign will acheive little other than

    - impacting the life of a lovely young lad who does sing really well
    - irritating the 18m people who like x factor. but not changing their viewing habits.
    - making Simon Cowell even more powerful, thru the PR

If for no other reason, give the guy ( Joe) a break.
Imagine if he was your mate. How would you feel.
