AAAAHHHH I've fought against the rain for the last 27 days everyday rain and now a gale in my face, I've had enough :( So I've decided I'm going to remain grumpy today and to cheer myself up pop into Evans and Wheelbase on the way home and buy something.
  • Aye it was a bit breezy this morning.

on the upside, the sandblasting i got past the roadworks has made me look ten years younger

It was more like   for me last night. I'm sure the headwind stopped me in my tracks more than once and it's sibling, sidewind, tried to shunt me into the pavement. Legs were like jelly by the time I got home so didn't do any running. Large dinner and a glass of wine instead :D

All was calm this morning. Great ride :)

Yeah last night was worse for me (about 8:30pm) - nasty gusting sidewind for a couple of miles - bizarre bike handling and pretty scary
  • Nearly got blown off half a dozen times on the ride home last night.

Didn't notice the wind though ....

  • Actually too dangerous here this morning. Estimate 50mph gusts where I live. That combined with motorists "ooh there is different weather" driving and I thought better of cycling.

That and I've had a puncture and snapped a cable this week, therefore am expecting a chain to snap or something like that.
  • The wind had calmed down here a bit this morning after I had got off the seafront, last night was a shocker riding down the Portishead coast road and then into Clevedon.

This morning it was the freezing rain, didn't last long enough for me to stop & get my Buff out though.

Looking really calm now, hopeful for tonight.
  • im thinking of slowing down my cycling this next few weeks coming the wind is getting dangerous!

luckly for me my commute is quiet road + royal park over short distance and the bike is heavy stable lump so while you do catch the headwinds well, side winds have very little effect. and quite frankly on that bike doing 20mph is doing very well indeed....
  • I braved the headwind this morning, mainly so that I could experience the 35 mph (ave) tailwind I'm forecast for tonight. :D
  • Got soaked at the start of my commute home last night in islington, but the rain had stopped in south London, so the strong wind acted like a blow dryer and I was no longer soaked by the time I got home.

I was getting blown all over the place last night, almost ended up in a curb a few times. Saw a few other cyclists that didn't seem to be having any trouble at all... maybe I'm doing something wrong?

    pst88,

    too close to the kerb?

BTW - I see it's worryingly common to use the US spelling of kerb on these boards (curb). It's a disgrace, obviously ( )

IT's really been getting me down the last couple of weeks. I've seriously considered getting the train, but that would cost more money and I'd be even more tired at work so I've stuck with it, this morning I passed the time daydreaming about commuting in summer mmmmmmmm :?

Yep, got taken by surprise by a gust going over Waterloo Bridge last night - wobbled towards a car for a second before I yanked the bike back to the left !

On days like today, I wish I had drops on my commuting bike. I'm sure it'd make riding into the headwind easier.

  • That wind's sure blown up here (down south) this afternoon, made a tough ride earlier. I always get proper angry on a bike in a headwind, feels good after though!

    And seriously? Snow? Feck.

According to metcheck, but I can't see it happening myself. it's still forecasting a south westerly wind with no notherlies until later on the week after, but hey I'm no expert 8)

I've had a lazy, lazy week.

I'm blaming the wind, but really I'm just lazy.

However the idea of being blown under a set of wheels with something big and heavy on top is frightening.

Me too. In my case its just that I've got sick of cleaning mud out of the drivetrain of my bike. Roll on winter. Life gets much better once the ground freezes hard. :D
