Does anyone have recomendations?

factors to consider

Free = good but cheap = ok

UK based (or with good UK coverage) - alot seem very american, and don't have common uk food stuff in.

Ability to cutomise or group foods into items (eg Xml milk + Yml tea = how I Always take my tea)

simple and easy to use

Cheers for your thoughts and suggestions

  • Try www.foodfocus.co.uk.

Quite basic = simple and free. But it has all you need to moniter cals in vs cals out. As with all things, just take a bit of time to work your way round it.

You can make up your own recipes, add foods that aren't on the database.

    Cheers

The best ones are those you can use on your phone so you can add as you bimble about. I was using the Livestrong one but it stopped working when I updated by BB :(

Not an issue for me. I don't <GASP!> have a mobile phone

The Livestrong one (which I use) is ACE.

It's called the Daily Plate (http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/) and has lots of foods from the UK (Including some supermarket-own brands, etc.

It's free, you can set up repeating items (like your tea WITH milk, sugar, etc). Set daily calorie goals, enter exercise, etc.

    Highly recommend it.

I actually have one, and still have credit from the initial £10 top up 2 years ago. Don't use it too much, think they are really impersonal and impolite. Just me I suppose.

If I didn't have one I would probably lose out on about 2-3k per year as all my overtime is arranged through ringing me on it at short notice!

  • Thought the livestrong (nonpaying version) was excellent when I used it - sadly it dumped me after about 3 months - so cheesed off I didn't go back.
maybe it was my fault but I was gutted having gort into teh swing ofthings, set up my own meals & stuff..... :x
  • Try this, recommended to me by Sportstest. It's free online, but you can buy a full featured version.

To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.

I'd second this. I bought the standalone version and been using it very successfully for the last 2 years and it helped me get down my "18" weight this season. The food db is american but its very quick and easy to add foods to it.

  • I tried fitday and tbh the lack of metric* and the lack of lots of the foods i eat on it kinda of did my head in. It was OK, but i'd like soething where i didn't spend all the time having to add foods

*it did have grams - but it still does fl oz and i can't work them out in my head**

  • You didn't like foodfocus then

(is that supposed to be a winky - it looks like he's had a stroke!)
  • I don't have a mobile either. Had one for years, got rid of it and regained my freedom.

Good thread - I've just chucked together my own spreadsheet but will try some of these as they have the foods in (spending half my life looking at food packaging atm!).

Wish I didn't have a mobile or email. Oh for the days you could say you'd sent something in the post or you could hide 'on site' without anyone being able to find you

http://dailyburn.com has an i-Phone app that can scan bar-codes to auto-add your calories, don't have an i-phone myself so no idea if it's any good
  • The next day after this thread was started I registered with Fitday.com. Since Nov 24th I've lost 1.5 stone.
Keeping track of the calories I consume has certainly kept me focused. I have kept it simple by creating my own foods with their amount of calories per serving.
Fitday worked out how many calories I could have per day to reach my specified target weight.
I need to lose another stone to reach my long term target but Im now confident I can do it.

So. Im just saying thanks to OP and the contributors to this thread. :D

Total idiot I was - just needed to log on again actively and all my stuff is there from August. So Livestrong is my choice. Also runs as an app on Iphone/ Ipod touch anything that keeps you focused is good.....

I just joined the livestrong one.
Today I consumed 897 cals and my turbo burst used 536 cals.
I was surprised to have only consumed 897 cals, I thought I had done really well...
The site calculates I am 361 over my goal
Christ, I'll be like a Belsen inmate, soon!

    EDIT:
After I calculated a calorie goal/ weight loss plan, I have 1755 calories left to eat.....
    Choclate.....
